New job!!!

I went for an interview at a private day nursery today. As I was waiting in the entrance area for the supervisor to come and see to me, I was very unsure if I wanted to work there. It seemed a little bleak and a few of the nursery nurses that walked past didn't smile, let alone acknowledge me.

Anyway, the interview went well. She asked lots of senario type questions, most of which I thought I answered well. At the end, she said she liked my personality and answers so well, she would like to offer me the job there and then and I accepted.

I went for a look around the nursery and the room I will be working in is small and nice. I will be working with another lady looking after 3 toddlers now, and 6 in June when some newcomers start.

I might as well give it a go I thought and so I start on Monday. I'm just a little frightened of the bitching that goes on in some nurseries.

By the way to all the other parents, how do u feel about nursery workers without CRB checks as I havent got one and will be working unsupervised with these babies. I think its a little attrocious.

Bundle - I agree, this post looks a little odd. OG says she is 21, but had a CRB check when she was working 5 years ago - as a nanny at 16??

But perhaps we shd give her the benefit of the doubt?

Hi Tanzie,

I first started working in nurseries when i was doing my nvq2 which is why i had a crb at aged 16 coz i went to college and a nursery placement straight from school!

and technically a CRB is 'invalid' the day after its issued so you can commit crimes in between...

Many schools / nursaries require you to have new one with them regardless, so if you are temping at 2 or 3 schools in a month then you need 2 or 3 CRB checks...

rediculouse but thats how it is..

same if a teacher wants to be a brownie leader or seomthing.... needs one for each

Actually it is against osteds regulations for a childcarer/NNurse etc to be working alone with children in a nursery/setting etc (if osted reg). It again it most definately forbidden to change diapers etc until your CRB enhanced disclosure is through. I would most definately approach the manager/supervisor (Why on earth they don't know this or suggest otherwise one doesn't know!!!)You will be not only putting your profession/career on the line...it makes you wonder what else is/has not been done with the other staff or may be they have just been lucky....the children that is!!! .... definately needs bring to Osteds attendtion. It seem like the nursery does not know its obligations.
