Hi there,

I've been using a certain CM for just over two years now for my two boys of 6 and 2. Just wondered - if you have a day off work, still drop the kids off and use the time to get some stuff done - can the CM object?

The reason I ask is a while back I did such a thing because there were few things that needed doing around the house.....as soon as the CM found out I was at home (she lives really close by) she phoned me, gave me a thorough dressing down and demanded I pick the kids up immediatley! OK, maybe I should have told her I was at home that day for emergency contact purposes, I realise I was in the wrong there - but surely it's none of her business what I do when she's got the kids! (Now, in case you're wondering I don't do the day off thing very often). Am I being unreasonable? Please don't shout at me (too loud)!

That's quite funny actually!! (sorry).
She told you off because you took the day off & demanded that the kids should be picked up??? . There has to be a context to this. If not, it's not funny, it's a bit horrifying...

One of my mindees mum went off to a concert recently while I had her LO untill her DH could pick up - no problem at all

Many of my parents over the years have used me and gone christmas shopping, riding, spa days or just gone back to bed due to exhaustion during maternity leave. I always wave them off with a cheerful have a lovely day, then seethed with jelousy . They pay me to look after their child, what they do with their time is up to them.

Also I do not charge extra for school holidays, and don't charge for my sickness (not that I've had any in 5 years - we just all get ill together).

Oh dear.... I think your CM must be rubbing her hands together!
It is absolutly none of her business what you do whilst you pay her to look after your children.

Btw I am a CM!

As for the holiday pay thing, all CM charge differently.
Personally I charge when a child is sick but no fee if I am sick, and I charge when a child is on holiday but no fee when I take a holiday.
I charge per hour & my rate depends on hours & the age of a child but it is a flat rate & I certainly do not charge more during school holidays, Most CM earn more in the school hol anyway because they mind children that would normally be in school.

Hope im not out of line here but I think she is being greedy, unreasonable & definitly taking advantage of you.
