can I hire a nanny on a fixed term contract?

I wonder if someone knows the answer....

I'm looking at hiring a nanny. For one reason or another which I won't bore you all with right now I'd like to start out with a fixed term contract, say, six months. Is this allowed or do I have to have to just employ someone stretching into the future IYSWIM?

Yes, I don't see why not.

Asolutely. You can write a 12 month contract and when your 12 months are up write another, and so on. But if you do this for a period of several years in a row she/he could argue that she/he was effectively permanent staff. But I think it has to go on for about 4 years for this to be the case.

6 months is definitely reasonable.
