Nanny - need some urgent advice please

I need some urgent advice.

My nanny who has been with us for 5 weeks is leaving in 2 weeks. to cut a very long story short she has been unsuitable.

What i am asking about is the following - on my pc in the playroom is 2 log ins - one is the childrens and one is ours. All the children and the nanny know the children's log in and use it to access the internet. I always use ours ( the adult ) log in . Today I used the pc after one of the kids who was already logged in and clikced the drop down box at the top to see whether the site I wanted to access was already there ( to save retyping it).

There were lots of sites there in Macedonain - my nanny's language. Idly I clicked on one and got a sharp shock. It was a sex shop or a porn channel - I couldn't tell which in macedonian. the front page was dildos and pictures of hairy vaginas - I kid you not. I was absolutely horrified as this is in the kids log in drop down box and any of the kids could easily have clicked on it either out of curiosity or by accident ( they like to access fantage which is also on drop down and could easily have misclicked).

My oldest daughter is 12 - this could also affect her fairly badly - to see a page full of dildos and vaginas. I am certain none of my kids found this site ( rather than nanny) due to fact it is in eastern european langauge.

I am very upset and usnure what to do. I am considering changing kids log in tellng them there is a problem with pc so that nanny can no longer access during last 2 weeks she is here. I want to know though how to get rid of the site from the drop down box so kids can't access it any more.

Please help......

I think leaving porn on the children's computer is definitely gross misconduct. It also quaifies for putting the children in danger.

But it might be easier just to take the computer priviledges away and ride out the rest of her time.

But, you definitely need some firewall/pron protection on your computer, and that amounts to more then deleting history and cookies. Porn writers are much cleverer than that. You probably still have stuff on your computer. Yuck. I would be seething.

I go on ann summers and durex etc on my lappie, but would never on host fams PC?! Why would you?! Stupid woman she is, obviously has a screw loose or something. Tell her that you know what she's been doing and to not do it again!

and if you add MK after the .com it doesn't bring anything up for me ?!

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/06/2009 13:08

same here rachieb - i got clothes

maybe nanny is innocent>

I can't log on to it to check addy as I'm at work but recall it as either

www. valentino.com.mk or www.valentina.com.mk.

Dh didn't take it that seroiusly - said she's an adult and all that etc. An IT friend looked at site in detail and said its a sex shop not a porn channel and is going to help with deletion from drop down box. Dh says not to tell her as it will embarrass her and she's gonig soon anyway.

On a brighter note I think we have recruited a lovely replacement who seems more mature, hard working and committed. Current nanny is only focused on how many breaks she can squeeze into the day and in refilling her coffee cup contstanly and checking her look in the mirror.

nope still cant find the pron site on either of those address

but least you have found a replcaemnt lisalisa

willowthewispa · 03/06/2009 13:55

It could have been a spam link she clicked - I've had a couple on Facebook recently that look like they come from people I know, so it might have been innocent on her part.

catepilarr · 03/06/2009 14:38

if you are using mozilla firefox and windows, go to tools on the top bar and choose clear private data wher you can choose browsing history.
internet explorer has a similar function but i cant find it now.

FabulousBakerGirl · 03/06/2009 14:42

I would send the kids in the garden/out of the room.

Tell the nanny you want to show her something.

Click on the hairy vagina pages and ask her what is going on?

Then send her upstairs to pack.

Seriously.

She is entitled to a private life but the fact she has done this without considering the children might see it, makes her unsuitable in my book.

No expert here, but for your next Nanny's contract, it would seem sensible to say - even if she has her own log in - that the family computer should not be used to access sites which contain explicit sexual imagery or violence. Bit of bolting the stable door, but it's best to be clear about expectations, isn't it?
