Risk assessments

I know people have asked about this before but I really dont get what I'm ment to be doing when it comes to risk assessments.
Do I need to do one every time I step out the door?
What needs to be included?
How often am I ment to do them?
I have one for my house that I do every 6 months or everytime a new child starts.
I have a daily check list for the house.
So i think I have that covered but as for the rest of it 'SCREAM!!!'
I have been doing assessments but i think I'm doing it all wrong!

Please help!
I have my OFSTED inspec next week!

you need one for every new place you go e.g. school pick up, soft play, toddlers, messy play etc.

if you go to several diffrent soft plays or toddler groups you need a seprate one for each. i dont have and ofsted told me off today

so do i then do each individual one every time i go there?
i.e every day on school run i have to fill in a risk ass. What am I checking for?
Is it things like car seats correct?
NIGHTMARE!!
sorry i'm pulling my hair out!!

If you send me your e-mail I will attempt to send you one of mine that will show you what I do for a regular outing.

You will need a baseline assessment of your property, which should have outside and inside areas on. This should be done as an initial check to see what you need to do to make the areas safe.

You will then need to have a daily checklist, which should be simple and contain things like:

Socket covers in
Safety gates closed
Trailing wires / cables
Clean bedding / towels
Small toys unacessible to young children etc

It is much easier to do RA for each room or area of play.

You will need a RA for each regular event so the following may apply:

School Collection/ drop off
Play group
Soft Play Centres
Local Parks
Regular Walks etc
Farm Visit

I do a RA for transport and link it to an outing so for eg:

Travelling by Bus / Train / Car / Foot / Taxi

If you are planning to take mindees on a visit for the first time you should visit before so that you can do RA prior to visit.

You do not need to do RA every time you leave the house, as you will have most of them in place already. But you do need to review them every few months or if an event occurs that necessitates a review so that could be things like:

New mindees
Alteration / Use of property
Change of vehicle etc

I found once I had a template that suited me it was easier to get done, it does seem a bit daunting.

I do my risk assessments once a month, but a childminder friend of mine who had her inspection recently was told that she was doing too much paperwork and they only needed to be once a year. I think I read this somewhere in the Ofsted booklet also.
