need someone to do 2 hrs housekeeping before kids get home from school...so laundry, tidy, shopping, errands, prep meal...3 days a week so maybe 1.30 to 3.30...then be in or sometimes collect them, feed, homework etc til I get back at 6. I have 4 children

What role is this nanny? mothers help? housekeeper?...where should I advertise? what sort of person is likely to apply?...what do I need to consider? How much should I pay (live in SE Eng)?...what other tasks would help me out? How should I pay cash..? or "on the books?"...

Part time nanny-housekeeper - not a mother's help as you are not around so it's sole charge.

I'd advertise on gumtree and local netmums.

Pay kind of depends on the experience and qualifications you want, and how much you can afford! I'd say between £8-£12 an hour gross. You absolutely have to pay the person properly and legally, including all their tax.

You mentioned live-in. I would have said this was more of a live-out kind of job.

And as Willow said above.

Def not live in ...been there done that...not enough space anymore...meant that hours would be 1.30- 6pm x 3 days/week...first 2 hrs without children doing the chores...then next 2 1/2 hrs with children after school. Would like someone well organised, firm and kind for the children ... not too bothered about the quality of the chores

Not sure who you'd get applying though - it's not enough hours to be someone's only job, but spread over three days doesn't leave much time for another part time job. Wouldn't suit someone with their own child, and the start is quite early for a student.

do you think that I should split the house hold chores and nannying bit then..? have 2 people?

You could always advertise for one person and see who you get applying? My feeling is in general nanny/housekeeper roles don't often work - you either get a great nanny who hates the housekeeping side, or someone who's great with the housekeeping but not so keen on the kids. And 4 must be a handful - how old are they?

One other way to go could be an after-school nanny (is it full days in the holidays?) that could appeal to a uni student or a teaching assistant wanting to boost income for example. And then either a cleaner coming for a few hours on a couple of days, or even just a housekeeper for just one 6 hour day.

Or maybe if you have a neighbour with an au pair, they could earn some extra money doing your housekeeping bits.

live-in was a durr on my part

I read (live in SE Eng) as (live-in, SE Eng)
