So there I was scrolling through gumtree and then I found mothers help job clicked on it and this is what it said:

*Mother?s Help

4 days 7.15am to 5.30/5.45pm

Half day Wednesday 8.30am to 1pm (may also get an additional half day a month depending on my work commitments)

Looking after 2 year old Boy ? playing, reading, taking for walks/park, there is also a nice little play centre 5 min drive away which might be nice for you to take him once a week.

Cooking dinner for the whole family 3 ? 4 times a week (Mon, Tues, Thurs and occasional Fri)

Cleaning ? floors / kitchen / bathroom/kids bedroom (very small house)

Collect 4 year old daughter from school (all day care during her school holidays)

Once a month evening Babysitting (Paid extra ? Would be on a either a Friday or Sat night)

Prefer Age (25 + )
Driver preferred
Non-smoker
£125 per week
Location: Mitcham
Must have checkable UK references
Must be available for face to face interview
Long Term Commitments only
Start 24th August 20098

How can someone expect to only pay £125 per week LIVE OUT for those hours!!!!!!
Shocking!

ingles2 · 22/05/2009 18:59

NO!
It can't be live out!
She must have missed out the info.

willowthewispa · 22/05/2009 18:59

Is it definitely live out? For live in it's terrible money for what looks like a full time nanny-housekeeper job, but for live out it's illegal!

Supernanny19 · 22/05/2009 19:01

Makes my blood boil!
May aswell as advertised it MOTHERS SLAVE

Problem is either some poor foreign girl is going to pick that up or some witless young girl who's desperate to work in childcare gr

I work less than 30 hours for a price similar to that (less mind you, but still, worth it by the sounds of things!)

FourArms · 22/05/2009 20:16

Surely if it was live-in they'd want more babysitting than that?

Julesnobrain · 22/05/2009 20:55

That's illegal. Minimum wage is something like £5.45 an hour. It must be live in surely

VeryCheekyMonkey · 22/05/2009 21:00

£5.73 an hour and that goes up in Oct x
Maybe they dont know !

PixiNanny · 22/05/2009 21:06

Most of these people do know the legalities, they just want the cheap slave labor, which I'm sure you all know

ingles2 · 22/05/2009 22:17

I really believe there is a mistake on that ad! They've forgotten to mention it's live in. It must be!

Supernanny19 · 22/05/2009 23:18

Fun loving, confident au pair wanted for family in Clapham.

You will be in sole charge of Niamh while I am at work so will need childcare experience, be smart and able to deal with any situation. Niamh is a very easy-going, happy little girl. She likes to have fun and is very active. Your typical week will include going to monkey music, having play dates, going to story times, arts & crafts, reading books, singing and dancing and running around the park. You will also need to prepare all of Niamh?s meals each day. Niamh knows lots of other children in Clapham so you?ll have a busy social diary!

Occasionally I will need you to do some babysitting for me, which could include the weekends but no more than 2 nights a week and always arranged in advance.

We have a cleaner so you won?t be required to do any cleaning, simply tidy up after meal times, put the toys away and do Niamh?s laundry.

You will have your own double bedroom with TV/DVD and we have excellent broadband Internet.

I need someone to start on 1st July and stay for a minimum of one year. It?s a full time job but your weekends will be free.

Salary will be £100 per week.

SOLE CHARGE FULL TIME AUPAIR?
then parents love to come here and moan about them..prehaps put your hand deeper in your pocket !

Slave Labour. I think its disgusting, real piss take, who do these people think they are, probably loaded as well. Shameful.

whyme2 · 22/05/2009 23:35

you get what you pays for IMO.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/05/2009 23:40

oh god, nightmare flashback to the evil bitch who lived in Wimbledon when I 'nannied' for her for £45 per week (in 1990).

She asked me to get up at 5.30 am to clean the kitchen and make sure the porridge and toast was ready for 6.45 for breakfast.

What she didn't tell me when she swanned down at 9am with her brood was that she'd changed her mind about the early start. When I looked grumpy she dragged me upstairs by my hair and told me to pack.

She then left me locked in my bedroom for 3 hours, she came back, drove me to Kings Cross and left me there (with no ticket, no money). I was at uni up north.

I've wanted to out her ever since and now I'm a 37 year old mum I want to go round and kick her snooty ass Exploitative bitch

PixiNanny · 23/05/2009 00:15

That £100 a week one is better than others, only one child rather than two/three and the kid seems to be old enough to nearly be in nursery...

I'd take that one (for the experience) rather than the MH positions I see offered that pay £75 weekly for full time sole charge of two under three's!

But beggars can't be choosers and I'm damn lucky I got the position I'm in!

Supernanny19 · 23/05/2009 07:36

I know the clapham one dont sound too bad but the fact its FULL TIME for 100pw! still taking the piss!
When i used to AP i got 95pw for 25 hours - which is part time!

disgraceful, the poor girls that apply for these jobs don't know what they are letting themselves in for. Also, these people are leaving their dcs with people they pay less for than their cleaners.

AtheneNoctua · 24/05/2009 19:17

Do people apply for £100 per week ads? I'm currently hiring. Maybe I can someone who will work for the sheer priviledge of my aquaintance?

I'm kidding of course.

But seriously, surely no one applies for these ads.

And i agree there is probably a typo in the first ad -- or a digit missing.

frAKKINPannikin · 25/05/2009 14:41

You're hiring, AN?

I thought you persuaded your nanny to stay or was it not you with the 6am starts that nanny was off/on about?

Hope you find someone brilliant.

AtheneNoctua · 25/05/2009 17:50

It was me. Same nanny regined again. This was the third resignation and I happily accepted it this time. She was obviously not happy, and I knew it was time to part. So, am now on the hunt for a July start to replace her.

RachieB · 26/05/2009 23:30

can't believe she resigned again!

Good luck in finding her replacement

OMG laurie !

leo69 · 27/05/2009 10:02

Be very careful of gumtree adverts. I have found I am getting a lot of spam, I think weirdos are getting hold of e-mail addresses.
However I was offered a brilliant job;
10-4pm one child £600 a week, and they were moving from America, and would buy a house near to me for my convenience!
If only this job was real ;)

lobsters · 27/05/2009 13:41

I know this is the least of the worries about the first advert, but I thought since the advent of age discrimination legislation you weren't allowed to say 25+

FabulousBakerGirl · 27/05/2009 13:44

Are you allowed to cut and paste ads on to here?

Au paris aren't allowed to work full time, sole charge are they?

I au paired years ago and had sole charge of the 5 year old for about 4 hours a day only.

AtheneNoctua · 28/05/2009 10:59

Leo, I have found that gumtree ads tend to atract masses of unsuitable candidates. SO, I've ecided to give it a miss this time -- although may contact nannies who advertise on gumtree.

You are right, Lobsters, you can not specify an age. Technically, you can not even specify years of experience. But, all the au pair / nanny websites I know list the candidates' ages.
