Mothers Helper

Hi I am looking into the possibility of getting a mother helper for my two children under 5 and also to help with some cleaning duties. I have looked on "nannyjob" and also "gumtree" but am still confused about what levels of pay I will need to offer and also about where is best to advertise for the position. We're located in North West London.

Any additional pointers will be much appreciated!

thanks.

Hello

you would need to pay min wage so that would depend on age of person.

also consider the experience of someone a mothers help is usually a first home based childcare job for someone so maybe have no qualifications or few qualifications.

some nursery nurses look for mothers help type work before moving into nannying for experience.

you could try netmums and gumtree and also on here

around £5.50 would be an acceptable level. you could try a university student finishing around now for summer (usually off from june til end sept) who is doing a childcare related degree and you may be able to then pay a set amount per day so maybe for 8hr pay £40.

Thanks.

I have just employed a mothers help. Netmums and mumsnet are a usually resource, as is Gumtree (although we are in a more rural area not covered by gumtree)

The other thing you may which to consider is Job Centre Plus. Largest job site in the uk - plus all those advisors! It is free, and we just had to fill out a simple form on the internet and then sign someting they sent through the post to say that we planned to offer at least the miniumum wage. They also sent us a really useful guide about emplying people in your home in a domestic capacity, and the insurance/various other checks to consider.

We got 17 applications, most of whom were suitable - including several NNEB qualified. We are paying £8 an hour, but that includes an early start and at least one hour a day sole care of dd.
