i really dont know how to word this question with out it sounding silly and obvious, but i'm really not sure!

i'm giving notice to one family who are really taking the micky now and i want out, but what paperwork do i keep?

i would thought you would keep all the observations but do i keep her evidence file or do i give it to her mum?

I thought all the observations/evidence etc would go withthe parent to the next 'setting' iyswim

I think you can keep a copy with signed permission, otherwise it belongs to them

When I was working in a nursery using EYFS, we passed on all photographs/observation notes etc. to the parent for the next setting, but kept a document which showed all the "development matters" statements which we had dated to correspond with our evidence through observations. We did this to ensure that we had some historical evidence to show ofsted. Not sure if this would be right for childminders though.

I keep all the financial information (receipts/invoices) for up to 7 years. These are needed in case the tax office ever want to come and check your records. Its recommended to keep accident/incident records/existing injury records and attendance forms for 21 years because its possible for a child to take legal action against you when they become an adult.

For the observations and assessments, I plan to keep for up to 4 years, so I've always got something to show Ofsted - eg, if I have no mindees or new mindees with few records at my next inspection. But I would only keep a copy and give all the original obs to the parents to keep. If I had plenty of other children enrolled, I might not even keep a copy of the obs.

you only need to keep the main paperwok- such as contracts accident records permission forms etc all obs/planning/asses and learning journey stuff is parents property so to speak . you can keep copies wioth there permission though x
