Any chance of anyone wanting a full time live in nanny position in Sunbury (West London)?

We are in Sunbury, West of London, inside M25... and my kids are perfect angels. No, not really.

Must be live in.
Must be willing to do mid week overnights (for extra pay)
Must already have visa to work in the UK.
Oh and MUST MUST MUST be fairly tidy and organised.

Oh, and you need to stay at least until Christmas... longer if you want to.

Hi there - am I right in thinking you are looking for an au pair plus kind of person? Some friends of ours are moving overseas and their current au pair is - I think - looking for a new job. She currently looks after their two children aged 4 and 2, including school drop off for the 4 year old, and they have great things to say about her, the only slightly negative comment I've heard is that she needs a bit of inspiration in terms of what to cook them for dinner... if you're interested let me know and I'll email them to find out what her plans are. They're moving early July, I think.

AtheneNoctua · 19/05/2009 16:38

Hi LA

It's a possiblity -- unless "needs inspiration" is polite english speak for "eats and feeds kids crap no matter what they do"

Seriously, I don't mind providing some recipes and showing her how to cook, if she is willing to learn. But, if I catch her giving my darlings nutrasweet or counting ships as a veg then I might have a hissy fit.

I'm still on the nanny thing really. But, I'm willing to consider someone who has been an au pair and has some childcare experience and wants to make the move from au pair to nanny.

There is currently overnight care required on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Dh leaves Monday morning. I fly out Tuesday morning. DH back Thursday evening. I am back Friday evening. So she has to hold the fort no matter what crisis arrives from Tuesday morning until Thursday evening.

July is perfect timing.

Where is she from?
Visa?
Is she she sporty and fun? (gym membership on offer and it winds me up when they don't use it. I know that's silly. But it just does.)
Is she a morning person? She has to start at 6:30 to get the kids ready for school and out the door. (Although I have recently discovered that she needs to get out the door by 7:30 because they need time to go to Starbucks for baby chinos before school )

without wanting to speak about her in a public forum, what her employer told me was that she took direction well. She's Romanian, but not the gloomy kind, quite self reliant and very responsible. I think she is looking at making the move to a full time nanny role. I don't really know about her morning-ness - or sportivity, although she does turn up in the school queue in gym clothes somewhere and has firm views on the importance of exercise for children...She's interviewing with some people at the moment, if you're interested, maybe send your job description and I can forward it?

overweightnoverdrawn · 19/05/2009 17:26

She's Romanian, but not the gloomy kind What do you mean LOL

legalalien · 19/05/2009 18:04

sorry - random reference to a thread a long time ago about a romanian au pair bringing a little bit of eastern european melancholy to a household - should probably not have brought it up! (not my thread but was controversial at the time). FWIW the three Romanian people I have ever met in person have not been notably gloomy>>>>

willowthewispa · 19/05/2009 22:47

Oh no Athene! Did your nanny quit again? I thought she'd agreed to stay?

BecauseImWorthIt · 19/05/2009 22:50

There's another Wimbledon meet up being suggested - see meet up thread!

Claire2301 · 19/05/2009 22:55

Hi,

I have been an au pair for 15 months in France then a Nanny/Au Pair plus in Ireland last year for six months. Currently in Admin job but thinking about going back to Nannying. Any chance you could email over a more detail job description/ if you want to ask any questions my email is: clairemichelle23 at hotmail dot co dot uk?

Thanks
Claire

AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2009 06:15

Yes, she resigned again. But, you know, it's for the better. In the last month or two she really hasn't been happy. And I knew this couldn't go on. So, I think it's best -- for us and for her. She has agreed to stay until July and be flexible with the end date to suit me. So, I can be abit flexible with a start date for a new nanny and that is helpful.

Claire, I tried to CAT you, but you aren't accepting them! You can find me on athenenoctua at live co uk.

Hi BIWI. Will go sheck out meet up thread.

Hi-

I'm new to Mumsnet so unfortunately have no idea what CAT means but will def email you.
Thanks

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/05/2009 17:51

sorry you are looking again my little owl - but prob best in the long run

hope you find someone soon

AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2009 18:54

Thanks, Blondes. It's okay. A bit of an inconvenience and kids will miss her. But the were going to miss her in December anyway. And, given the market, I think it will be pretty easy to find someone.

I'm steering clear of holiday makers though. EU citizens this time. I just can't be bothered with all visa shenanigans.

Would you be interested in Mr and Mrs Doubtfire, with class and intellect? Couple approaching their 60s, teaching in a highly-regarded prep school, boarding parents...looking to move on to a new challenge. Very experienced with children of all ages (6 of our own, and now grandchildren!), energetic, empathetic, firm but kind, imaginative and creative. Can tutor children in the entire curriculum, from Latin to Physics, Japanese to Computer programming (to A level).
Have a wonderful rapport with the children we look after and educate, and are much loved by them. We have strong ideas about learning styles and education outside the classroom, and we would ensure children that we looked after would go to museums, galleries, nature trails..they would get dirty and paint-covered, but would be guaranteed to be happy, healthy, well-fed, bi-or trilingual, well-balanced, courteous and confident.
The pay is not so important to us as the right post. We come as a package (husband is ex Royal Navy, ripping yarn-spinner, huge fun and wonderful cook), and would be happy with the one salary between us, provided that we can live in and work together.
We guarantee that you will be utterly delighted with what we can offer (husband will also write bespoke software if required!). We are a real alternative to prep school, as an adjunct, or in whatever role you prefer.
Please let me know should you be interested, or should you know of someone looking for a shared tutor/nanny arrangement.

AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2009 19:51

Wow. That sounds really attractive to me. But, I doubt that it is withing reach of my budget. So, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to take you up on it. But, what a fantastic idea for someone.

Out of curiosity, why are you making this move?

OP posts:
pollyglot · 20/05/2009 20:01

Hi Athene...perhaps we could talk on email about the budgetary parameters?
We adore what we do, but I am getting somewhat tired of the "exam factory" mentality in schools, where REAL education is secondary to league tables, exam cramming etc. I simply love illumining children's minds and making them really aware of all the world has to offer, and their own potential. Simply the best thing!

BTW, I love that Mr. Doubtfire is x royal marine. My brother is in the US Army (I am American) and I hate that children are not taught to respect our service men and women today. I think it is something to be honoured and respected. And I seem to be in such a minority in the UK with that view.

I just can't imagine that I can afford you.

Any chance you would consider a share (not that I have anyone to share you with off hand, but if I did)?

OP posts:
pollyglot · 20/05/2009 20:10

Certainly we would consider a share! The more the merrier...

My brother is also in the American Services...as Surgeon Commander, he technically outranks Mr Doubtfire, but in Mr D's opinion, NO-ONE outranks a Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer!

AtheneNoctua · 20/05/2009 20:13

E-mail sent.

Just had to butt in and say WOW what a fantastic package you are offering pollyglot I should imagine that there will be people out there that would be really keen on something like this - particularly those with school age boys.

Good luck

pollyglot · 20/05/2009 20:44

Why, thank you for the affirmation, nbee84!
I really hope that we find our next new challenge.

legalalien · 21/05/2009 15:30

pollyglot · 21/05/2009 17:58

pollyglot · 21/05/2009 18:01
