How much should I pay a baby sitter?

we have 3 dc, the tw youngest 3yr old and 1yr old are always settled in bed for the night and our 7yr old son tends to stay up till about 9.30pm at the weekend, I would like the sitter to stay over (which she will) she gets a taxi home about 8.30 in the morning, she will get up the two youngest and give them breakfast. Whats reasonable?

Very hard to say. Personally I charge £10 per hour (capped at £150 per 24-hour period).

MY goodness that seems a lot - I suppose if its for 24 hours its not but overnight for me it does.

May help to read some recent message threads which have been about the same/nearly same topic.

Back in my teenage years I used to charge a lot less, can't remember what a full overnight was but probably £20. That was a good 15-20 years ago though!

As you are contemplating leaving your children with a babysitter overnight, I guess that this particular babysitter is well known to you and them. Therefore you could just pay what you would normally for the waking hours... and then add £20-£30 for the overnight bit.
So say pay usual hourly rate from start till midnight, then £20 for midnight to 6am. Then hourly rate from 6am.

Has your babysitter suggested a price?

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/05/2009 12:59

i charge £10ph till midnight then sleeping fee of £30 (midnight to 7am) and then back to my hourly rate

so if 24hrs i charge £200 and get lots of work

what would you normally pay your sitter an hour, then add on £30 sleepover on top

RachieB · 18/05/2009 15:05

are you expecting to not pay while the sitter is in bed / asleep ?!

hourly rate will depend on how old the sitter is ? if she has quals ? how much experience etc

I charge £7 per hour up to midnight ,£30 for midnight - 7am then £7 per hour again until I leave

I charge £10 an hr with min of £30 (mon-thurs) and £12 an hr with min of £40 fri-sun.

overnight for 7pm-7am is £80 mon-thurs and £100 for fri-sun.

24hr care is £175 per 24hrs (£200 if waking baby at night or more than 4 children).

I am a qualified childrens nurse in the east midlands.

did a babysit sat night for 5 children (was only suppose to be 2 other nanny had a family illness so couldnt come so had all 5 - long story) from 7pm-1am and was paid £125.
