Free night nanny?

Hi,

Would you employ experienced nanny as a maternity/night nanny? I`m planning to go into maternity/night nannying but have no experience(yet!) and was wondering if parents would employ someone like me. I have experience(8 years)from 5 months onwards, CRB checked and OFSTED registered with an excellent references.

I like to help mums with babies for free once a week for me to gain some experience. Please, let me know your thoughts and if you need my help.

Thanks.

where are you based?

rubyslippers · 15/05/2009 16:04

when are you planning on doing this?

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 15/05/2009 19:25

Sounds like a good idea to do it for free to gain experience and in return for a reference.

nbee84 · 15/05/2009 19:34

Just a thought -

do you think that because she has done it for free, the parent might feel obliged to provide a positive reference?

Though I do feel it is a good way to gain some experience.

I live in Balham, Tooting Bec area (SW of London).

rubyslippers, I can start anytime really(prefer Thursday nights).

nbee84, Im only after some experiences that's all. Parents don't have to give me anything and I don't want them to feel that they are obliged to do something because I don't cost them.

I know pretty much, its just I didn't put that knowledge into practise.

Good on you - it's no different from Norland Nannies working as Maternity Nurses for free for 2 weeks post-training.

nbee84 · 15/05/2009 22:03

Might be worth a look at this website. They like the volunteers to be parents themselves, but if you contact them they may take nanny experience instead. Obviously, you would then need to specify that you were looking to help out Mums with new babies.

Try posting an advert at some of the local health centres.

Post an ad on your local netmums

Mtorun · 15/05/2009 22:10

Thank you Nbee84. I`ll have a look at the link and have already posted a message on Netmums too(thank you for reminding me).

I posted a link for the wrong region of HomeStart. Try this one instead - a bit more local for you

looneytune · 16/05/2009 13:23

I'm in Berkshire so wrong area but I'd definitely take you up on that if you were local!!!

RachieB · 16/05/2009 17:11

Homestart is not childcare

it's sessional "help" while parents are around

FabulousBakerGirl · 16/05/2009 17:22

Not sure how much of a reference you could get on one nights work tbh.

If I was looking for childcare I would take that reference with a pinch of salt.

poshtottie · 16/05/2009 17:24

Why don't you get in touch with TAMBA and offer your services. There will be many mums with multiples be glad of the help.

looneytune · 16/05/2009 17:29

FabulousBakerGirl - she's not expecting a reference, she wants EXPERIENCE and I think this is a good way of getting just that.

Good luck to you I say

FabulousBakerGirl · 16/05/2009 17:59

I got the reference reference from eastmidlandsnightnann...'s post.

looneytune · 16/05/2009 18:09

I know but she'd since said she wasn't expecting references

FabulousBakerGirl · 16/05/2009 18:10

I don't always read the whole thread before I answer..

Posting my thoughts as an ex nanny and a mother.

looneytune · 16/05/2009 18:50

Fair enough

I still think it's a good way of gaining experience as you've got to get that somehow haven't you

Mtorun · 16/05/2009 21:29

My aim is purely! to get experience not interested in references. As my both MB`s are pregnant and I will help them once they have their babies and I can always get it from them.
