I don't know if anyone else does this or even if I'll be able to explain it in a way that you'll be able to understand but here goes.....

I currently charge my mindees on a monthly basis, worked out over the whole year, taking into account my 4 weeks hslf pay for holidays. SO every month is exactly the same regardless of holidays, the only time I reduce it is if I'm ill, it seems to be much easier, they know what to pay out and I know what to expect every month.

The kids are leaving soon, approx half way through this years holiday entitlement period, I will only have taken 1 week holiday by the time they leave.

So I would actually have under charged by a week over the course of 6 months (at half fee)

Does this mean that I can claim back half a weeks fees from them, since I've not been paid for it but haven't taken it.....does anyone understand???

I'm tempted just to leave it, I only ask cos another CM said that she would ask for it back, what do you all think??

I do this and if someone leaves during the year I explain how the fees are worked out and yes, I ask for any money due.

looneytune · 12/05/2009 11:17

Same here, they are told that when they leave it will all be worked out and I may owe or they may owe.

tommypickles · 12/05/2009 11:20

Oh god I was afraid you'd say that! Now I know I do feel kind of entitled.......but really don't want to ask.......I'm such a wossy! It's only about £125, would you bother??

I wish I could say ONLY at that amount!!! That's lots to me right now and yes, I'd definitely ask for it. As long as you've explained from the start that when they leave it needs to be work out, why feel bad????

atworknotworking · 12/05/2009 11:25

tommypickles I do same system as you too, what I would do is adjust their fees now to take into account the holiday fee, then it won't seem to bad, and yes I would bother £125 is £125 after all that buys a lot of wine toys

tommypickles · 12/05/2009 11:34

I didn't mean ONLY like I don't need it!!! lol, I just meant don't know if it's worth potentially upseting the situation.

The thing is I've had these kids for 2 years and they were the first ones I charged this way, I used to charge on a pay as you go basis, and I never explained this at the beginning because TBH I never thought about it!

I think it may be best to leave it this time and write it on the contracts for my new ones starting soon.

And yes atwork it would buy alot of wine toys!!! lol x

I do this occasionally, but I give the parents a statement each month saying how much they are ahead/behind, so there is no confusion if the children leave. I started doing this with the first one I arranged, because they kept changing their hours, days, etc, so I never knew if I was charging the right amount.
