Weekend Nanny rates

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 10/05/2009 15:03

We are thinking of asking our part-time live-out nanny (she worked full time for us for a few months but now does more adhoc duties when required) to care for our children over a weekend whilst we go to a wedding.

She would have sole charge from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Obviously, as she is effectively "live-in" for the weekend we would provide food etc.

What would be a fair rate?

She has suggested £200. It isn't outrageously expensive to us but wanted to know what you all would consider reasonable. We are outside of M25 so paying non-London rates

I would offer her normal hourly rate while the children are awake, plus a flat rate overnight (£30-£40?). What are the exact hours?

luckylou · 10/05/2009 15:33

You could ask on nannyjob.co.uk and see what nannies with experience of proxy parenting suggesy is a fair rate.

I think the rate RedEmma is suggesting would come to quite a bit more than the £200 your nanny has suggested

ShinyPinkShoes · 10/05/2009 15:35

Wow.
£200 is a bargain
All the nannies I know charge £250-£300 for a full weeekend.

Snap her up quick!

frAKKINPannikin · 10/05/2009 15:39

Proxy parenting rates are usually between £120 and £160 for 24 hours so £200 is a bargain!

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 10/05/2009 15:46

I am a qualified childrens nurse in east midlands and proxy parent and charge £175 per 24hrs (£200 for more than 4 children or if baby is under 1yr and wakes at night) any odd hours are charged at £12 an hr.

so i would charge for example from fri eve 7pm til sun eve 7pm £350.

so £200 is very good.

RedEmma · 10/05/2009 16:06

Yes, I think £200 is a bit of a bargain. Say she's paid £8 an hour, 24 daytime hours @ £8 is £192, plus two overnights @ £30 - just over £250 for the weekend.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 10/05/2009 16:31

Thanks everyone .

The regular rate is £8 per hour. As I said in OP, we did feel that £200 was reasonable. Just wanted to get the much-valued opinion of MNers to back it up.

Thanks again

enjoy the wedding and a child free weekend knowing your children are safe with someone they know really well.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/05/2009 23:38

a bargain indeed

I charge £200per 24hrs and get a lot of pp work

snap her up and enjoy your time away knowing your children are well looked after

Laquitar · 11/05/2009 13:57

This is not 'reasonable' it is the Bargain of the Year!! Now that you know it am wondering what you are going to do? Give her a very generous tip and superb food/drink/snacks and some spending money to treat herself and the children if they go out?
