Advice for Childminding Planning to take some holiday time off

I started childminding last Sept. I would like to book two weeks off in August. I will be giving the parents lots of notice. What procedure do you take ie what do you include in the letter. For example would you suggest another childminder during this time or do you leave this to the parents?

Would love to hear from you on this.

Not a CM but a client so you might find my POV useful.

This is what my CM does which works pretty well. If you haven't got anything booked, start talking to your mindees' parents now and see what their plans are. If you can be slightly flexible then ask them. My CM asks me which two weeks in August work for me but only during August so I have a bit of flexibility but not loads. I book my hols at the same time as her (if possible). She doesn't provide alternative care because all her friends go away at the same time but if that were available, I'd jump at it! My DS is only 2 and it is a bit annoying that I have to take my hols at most expensive time when I don't need to.

Hi,

I usually send an email/letter home in the little ones diary at least 4 weeks before the holiday advising of the dates, I then just add that if the parents would like some suggestions re alternative care to just ask and I will assist where possible.

Hope that helps and hope you have a nice holiday :-)

give them plenty of notiec in writing and then leave them to arrange alternative arrangments.. you might like to read the other post about holiday arrangments.. its a hoot..real cat fight ..lol

My parents should get 2 months notice (as per our contract) but in reality get loads more. I gave 9 months notice for my holiday in Jan and they were told (in writing) re my holiday in August.

I give the parents phone numbers of local CMs I know and trust... but there are hardly any vacancies with CMs in my area, so it would be nigh impossible to arrange this. I let the parents arrange their own childcare.

You can email me and I will send you my letter with tear off slip so that you know the parents have read the letter.

I tell them when my holidays are as soon as possible and just ask them to let me know if they need help finding alternative care. I also include all the holidays I have booked and they have booked (with the date booked) on the bottom of my invoices as a reminder for all of us.

MUM2BLESS - did you get my 2nd email?
I copied and pasted it into the email I sent. Then you just need to copy and paste it into whatever you use on your computer to make letters.
Hopefully that helps
