oh can i ask a question? for all of you childminders who have been pregnant whilst working, what do you do about dr's appointments? are parents usually ok about you taking mindees or do you need to take time off?
thanks

Tabbykat · 05/05/2009 08:05

morning all - feeling very mondayish here and not v keen to get to work!

vsleonifay - I am pregnant, and have to tell all my parents tomorrow as my tummy is getting huge - AArgghhh - any advice on that from experienced CMs gratefully appreciated!

So far I've been lucky in that my appointments have been when I'm not working - but if I really needed to go then I would ask parents which they would prefer - either take them with me or see if another cm could have them while I was there. Are you expecting???

Shoshe · 05/05/2009 08:12

PG ladies, Looney Crace and London11 have all been or are still (in the case of London, with twins!!) been PG and working, give a call for them.

Morning all, will talk from the doorway as have not been well this weekend and this is one of the first sick days i've had!!

I have been pregnant twice while minding, and with the exception of one parent, all the others have been very supportive either swapped days or allowed me to take the children to appointments.

outnumberedbymales · 05/05/2009 08:40

My parents were really supportive and were flexible for my appointments when I was PG. To tell the parents I managed to leave it until the June when I was due in the August. I got them all involved and gave them a quiz asking what sex, eye colour, hair colour and suggested names. The parents and children all had a go and everybody got excited for the baby to arrive to see who was right. It also helps to give contact details for other childminders that the children know through toddler groups that can cover.

HSMM · 05/05/2009 09:28

I took all my mindees with me when I went to get a flu jab (I know it isn't pregnancy related - but does link to appointments). I agreed it with their parents first and we all decided it was a good learning experience. I did of course have to smile and pretend it didn't hurt!

Hi, I am new in here. I need some advice is this the right place?

I have minded the same brother and sister for 2 years now.....but I have to give them notice very soon.

I can't continue to care for them because the little girl and my own son both start school in Sept at opposite ends of town.

Obviously I can't be in 2 places at once.

I know this is a valid reason in it's self but I do worry that they'll wonder why they need to leave by mid june (instead of Sept).

Reason being I have managed to secure a full time baby for mid June. I couldn't chance waiting to see if I could get more work for Sept start and be left with no ork at all.

I feel awful and feel like I've bben very underhand!!

Please reassure me that I've acted correctly!

And also give me some tips for giving notice, I'd like to do it by the end of the week to give them a little longer than the 4 weeks....just to try to be fair.
