Thinking of doing the whole course. Anybody here got anything to say on the course as a whole? How long did it take you to complete? Easy? Medium? Hard? Who you did it through local college? MNT? And most important did you enjoy it?

TIA x

It's very hard work, took me about 15months through NCMA funded tuition. Some units are easier than others.I found it hard to fit the studying in around being a cm, especially having a little one of my own. However, I learnt so much from it and it does make you reflect on your practice.

If you have the chance to do it - go for it .

It was a lot more time consuming than I thought it would be. But I benefited from it a lot and am now doing the EYP.

I would definitely encourage any CM do to it because it is good for your practicem, and as underpaidetc says, it makes you reflect on your practice.

The cerficate also looks very nice displayed on your wall .

Call your LA to guide you as to who is offering it etc.

BTW, I also made some lovely childminder friends on the course. A big bonus

I would still ask about funding - you care for children in the home, albeit not your own. You get certificates for each individual unit but have to have passed all 5 units to get the full level 3 qualification.

I'm about to finish unit 1 and was wondering how units 2-5 compared to it? I found unit 1 reasonably straightforward but would like an idea before I go paying out for the next unit.

My LA will only fund childminders because the qualifications are essential but wont fund nannies but they don't legally need qualifications (even though it seems you can't get a job without one these days!)

Im on the last unit at the moment. In all units 2-5 will have taken 18 months to complete. You need that time though, to get through all the paperwork.

It has been ok doing it, just a pain trying to fit in all the homework. I have also met a great bunch of CM's, and we do actually have quite a fun time every week.

Supernanny19 · 04/05/2009 09:03

If i was to fund myself surely it would take less then 18months? As they just send the paperwork to you?

Depends on if you do it by distance learning or attend classes, supernanny19.

i would still push your LA about funding.

Supernanny19 · 04/05/2009 12:06

I would be doing it distance learning..and working part time..id like to get it done within a year max.

If you know how to study efficiently, how to reference things, how to research and how to write essays then it could be done in under a year.
