NURSERY SAID WHAT?????

I had one of my mindees parents on the phone today very upset. Her DS was at nursery this morning and accidentally broke a toy during water play. The nursery told the DC off in front of everyone and demanded an apology. The child said that it was an accident so the nursery rang the childs mum and asked her to come in to take him home .

They discussed the situation if front of everyone and the mother said she felt very small and was spoken to like a schoolchild. The child apologised but it was not accepted because he had a smile on his face (he always has btw) and told him he showed no remorse. He was told to go home and that he would not be allowed to play in the water tray ever again??? WTF.

The poor mother was clearly upset and was told to advise her childminder of the situation and to ask if I would have a problem in taking the child???

As you can imagine I didnt have a probem accepting the child but advised the mother to think very carefully about her choice of nursery.

What happened to the Unique child

If I were that mum I'd invite all the kids round for a party and then I'd tell all their parents what happened at the nursery.

Regarding what to do with the branch, I believe she was supposed to shove it up the workers arse.

This nursery should be closed down. Presumably they talk to all the kids like this.

Found out this is actually the headmistress. Why she is involved with the preschoolers I dont know .

Another little boy was taken to the Head as he threw a little girls hair bobble over the fence and the parent got called in over that.

My mindees mum has now withdrawn him and told them she is looking into putting him into another school from September. She was told she was being dramatic and that there was no point in talking to her. WTF!!!

This school always has good Ofsted reports. I imagine the children have to wear straightjackets all day so they cant leave mess .

Anyway Ofsted have been told about this. Lets see what happens now.

Athene - I would have already rammed the branch down her throat .

I can imagine Ofsted will be horrified.

Littlefish · 30/04/2009 17:43

Not sure that Ofsted will do anything actually. She might be better off going to the governors or the LEA. I don't think that Ofsted will act on individual complaints.

Littlepurpleprincess · 30/04/2009 17:51

she could go to both, I would.

CrushWithEyeliner · 30/04/2009 17:55

Good God this should be reported ASAP. This sounds like some kind of brutal regime not a nursery school

Actually her other child does attend the school and not had any problems.

Mum reckons you are fine if your face fits if not you get a rough time.

FrEAKin HELL
I have just read this (am browsing in your section ) and am just so

I am a Secondary teacher. My last job was in a PRU for EXCLUDED kids in Hackney (yes, so big scary 15yo 'hoodies') and I wouldn't speak to them like that. Outrageous. No wonder you are livid. Tell the mum to get her kid OUT and stay with you for lots of cuddles. Poor little boy.

looneytune · 30/04/2009 22:56

Nothing more to add, just and

kitkatqueen · 30/04/2009 23:10

O.....M......G...... Gobsmacked. Report them to everybody, photographs of the tree and the kids climbing in them, written signed statement of "child throws hair bobble incident" to send to ofsted and possibly the nursery's insurance company? and send the whole lot to the bloody paper if they don't do something.

Poor little boy! Poor Mum!

Write them a letter saying that you were very concerned that they allow young children to play in trees that are not safe to bear their weight. State that you are concerned that the child could have fallen and injured himself, and ask what supervision was in place to ensure that the children were playing in a safe and suitable manner.

Ask to see a copy of their risk assessment for the play area, their health and safety policy for the supervision of children whilst they are playing, and a copy of the post accident risk assessment.

Make it clear that you consider that a young child is not capable of assessing the risk of such play, and that you are concerned that the nursery is not complying with their duty of care to carry out a reasonable assessment themselves. Ask them if they can reassure you that they will re-assess their procedures to ensure that all the children can play together in a safe and inclusive way.

Hopefully, making it painfully clear that you consider them to be the ones at fault might get them to back off, particularly if they realise they are at fault for not being able to produce all the necessary paperwork!

Is this the nursery class to a state primary school?
