Am investigating childcare options... Live in N16 (North London). Need two days a week - term-time only as I am a teacher though understand that I may have to pay for holidays/retainer. Have two lovely kids, a 9mth and a 3yr old dd (who goes to playgroup in mornings). Prob need 8am-5pm?
How much roughly are we talking? Do nannies do this? Happy for a nanny to have their own child too.

At the moment I don't think it works out financially for me to work does it?

I think you can just have a nanny term time only and pay them term time only as long as you dont require them to be available during the holidays.

I suppose a nanny with own school aged child may be interested if the childs school is local to you and they can take/collect their own child and bring to work for a few hrs each day.

or a nanny with a younger child brining own child all day.

you would be looking at £6-£10 an hr gross depending on nannies experience and quals and whether they bring own child or not to work.

you could agree the hourly rate then work out what they would earn per year for those hours and divide it by 12 so they get a payment every month, but you wouldnt need to pay for school holidays if not working and not required.

Many nannies will do this and then find other work in school holidays or just enjoy the break.

or you may find a nanny who has a 3 day job all year round and then is looking for a 2 day job so happy with term time only.

you need to agree a gross wage as may have a nanny doing to jobs so saves tax code sharing nightmare!!

Thanks for this, really helpful.

I might cost it out. But my mum is happy to look after them for a day a week (will tell her how much she is worth ) and i might just try and do evening/weekend work instead...
