Like this do you mean?

Hi

Many thanks for replying..

No this one was from America, 3 year old grand daughter who lost parents in California fire 2008, sent copy of passport picture of himself and picture of grand daughter

Not sure its scam, some of it sounds similiar to other scams, but then it doesn't if you know what i mean

well from what you said it sounds very similar to that link. i also get e-mails like this all the time for babby sitting, childminding and nannying.

where did the person get your e-mail address from?

if you want to proceed, do it with extreeme caution, i'm sure your not silly but dont give passport details, bank details.

but tbh it sounds like a scam

Hi

Not sure im on childcarelink.gov web pages, and the e-mail had to undisclosed recipients, so not sure how many people it was sent to... Hasn't asked for any bank details, which I wouldn't give out anyway, asked for references, and name and address.

Mentioned money asking how much, wouldn't say where moving to or anything like that, or give out a phone number thats why i wondered if it was a scam.

a couple of things strike me as odd, they havent told you where theyre going ot be moving to, so how do they know your in the best location? and they have asked for your name and address? how have they got your e-mail/know where youi are if the person doesnt even know what area you live in or what your name is?

although it is odd that they havent mentioned money. usually with scams thatone of the first thing they tell you, even if there loking for a childminder, they still tell you how much they feel is 'acceptable'.

your right some sounds like a scam and some doesnt but which ever way you look at it, it doesnt all add up. maybe this person has cottoned on that we are fishing out scams so has changed the way hes doing them?

Hi

Thats what I thought, some of the characteristics match in this with some of the scams I have read.

He did mention he would pay £700.00 a month, he wanted a cv or references. Said he was arriving on 18th May and she would start on 20th May, does mention a client and cheque, I mentioned there would be paperwork to fill out - fishing for information, but all he came back with can I do it when I get to the uk...

Still in a muddle, some of it ways up as a scam but then others don't...

I've had all these emails too and the amount of junk post is unbeleiveable. I'm sure it's my local council selling my details on as they have me registered as 'ms' instead of 'mrs' and all the junk/scams come addressed to 'ms .....'

Numberfour · 16/04/2009 17:20

def a scam

mousemole · 16/04/2009 18:56

its a scam - they'll ask for your bank details to pay you and then bingo - you've been done. All the stories contain a 'tragedy'. Beware !

velvetkitten · 16/04/2009 20:25

Hi

It seems strange that there has been no comments from anywhere about this happening to childminders. I'm a breeder of cats as well and I'm on a list like this and people have been trying it on with breeders of cats and dogs...

Don't know what they have to gain from trying to rip us off....

I think the scammers are getting a bit smarter. So with any communication from someone unknown be on your guard.

nannynick · 16/04/2009 21:49

When an email has been sent to undisclosed recipients, best to ignore. Someone genuine in my view would send an individual, personalised email.
Note, software to send bulk personalised email is low cost/free so a fully personalised email does not guarentee it is genuine, thus you should be on your guard for all email from unknown senders.
