I'm just filling in my Self-Assessment tax return for 2008, before my baby comes as goodness knows it is confusing enough without a screaming baby at my side!!!.

Net Turnover: £9!!!!!
Overall Loss: -£121!!!!

How sad is that!!!!!! Can anyone beat that for saddest tax return

tell HMRC they owe YOU money!

leonifay · 09/04/2009 15:52

mines going to be a loss of about £2000+ by the time i've put everything on it. at least i wont have a huge tax bill to pay

hf128219 · 09/04/2009 15:53

Is it not a bit late?!

suwoo · 09/04/2009 15:54

No. Self assessment doesn't have to be submitted until September.

I thought she meant Tax Return to 5 April 2008? Paper returns due by 31 October 2008, filed online by 31 January 2009?

ABetaDad · 09/04/2009 16:01

Having to fill in a 250 page return last year made me quite sad - amongst many other less savoury emotions

BradfordMum · 09/04/2009 16:07

Just got a letter this morning, saying fill it in online, as theyre not sending out paper forms unless you ask for one.

HappyChildminderBerkshire · 09/04/2009 16:43

A £2000 loss!!!!!! You win!!!

Nah HF my return isn't at all late, it will be veeeeery early. Veeery veeery early.

leonifay · 09/04/2009 16:56

that isnt how much money i've lost, my dh is an accountant and has put in apsolutly(sp?) EVERYTHING, and thats whats come out!

SillyMillysMummy · 09/04/2009 22:05

embarrasing question here but i havent done a tax return before, should i be closing off my accounts at 5th april? and starting a new month/tax year? have only been in business a couple of months

underpaidandoverworked · 09/04/2009 22:27

Yes, works well this year with it being a Sunday - less complicated . Remember that if you file your accounts online you have until 31st Jan 2010 to do it - just don't do what I've done lst couple of years and wait till mid-Jan to think 'Oh bugger'

Numberfour · 10/04/2009 09:43

i left year before last's one til 30 Jan! it was awful

i will NOT be doing that again!

catinthehat1 · 10/04/2009 10:14

ABetaDAd. You've mentioned your 250 pages before. I cannot imagine what you have put on it unless you are including a list of every Creme Egg you've bought in the last tax year as a business expense. Then it would make at least some sense.

ABetaDad · 10/04/2009 14:13

catinthehat1 - it started as 80 pages but then they ignored it all, then made huge errors and it took another 170 pages from me to sort it out. Stil had to calculate my own tax without any assistance from HMRC, pay it on time without so much as a payment slip from them and still they sent me a letter saying I had not paid the full amount on time. When I had done so. GAAAaaaaarggh!

Don't even get me started

catinthehat1 · 10/04/2009 19:59

Well here's a gratuitously childish and mildly offensive Star Trek fart video for you to cheer you up. Pity you can't mail it with the 08/09 return.

ABetaDad · 10/04/2009 21:04

Thanks for that.
