Okay so as a CM I have agreed with parents to work bank holidays, is it okay to charge more if so how much?.

Only been minding a few months, I feel I can charge more as other people in other jobs have an increased rate of pay, during these periods!!!!

Please enlighten me with your thoughts on this

Thanks

If I was to work bank hols, I'd charge double as I really don't want to work them and my contracts state I don't as a rule.

If I work a bank holiday I charge double. Standard procedure in business.

i charge double on a bank holiday. my contract states this, it also says that if a parent chooses not to send their child to me on a bank holiday i will charge them 1/2 fee. check the contract that you have signed, what have you said in them about bank holidays? (if it doesnt say anything it might be worth writing something in for future parents

It would put me off, as a parent. I feel childminders want to be treated like employees when it suits them and like contract workers when it suits them. So if you want to be paid for a bank hol when I don't need you, then I expect not to pay double if I do need you. This is how a salary worker would get paid. A contract worker would probably get double if they worked a BH, but nothing if they didn't. So, I would say to you that you can't have it both ways. And I would say the same thing if you wanted to charge me for your holidays.

Oh bugger. I didn't mean ALL childminders. Damn. I should proof read. I feel SOME childminders want it both ways. Not all.

I would charge time and a half probably. I specify that i am closed bank holidays because i really don't want to work them. I don't charge for any day I am closed including bank holidays and my own holiday. If I am open you pay full price, If I am closed you don't! thats how I work it.

i dont charge if i am not avaliable to work, for holidays or sickness or bank holidays i dont want to work.
i'm happy to work bank holidays and i do for some parents so i charge the rest of them 1/2 if they decide not to use me.
