Babysitter to look after kids whilst we go away for night

orangeplum · 05/04/2009 19:10

We are going away for the night and will need to pay our babysitter to look after our kids from about 10.30am until lunchtime the following day (including staying overnight in our house).

How much should we pay her for that period as we have never done an overnight babysit before. Our kids are good at going to bed and will probably be asleep from 7.30pm - 7am with no wake ups in the night.

Thanks

Seventy five quid?
Howmany kidsand what age?

moondog · 05/04/2009 19:14

Oh hang on ,it's over 24 hours. At least 100 quid then.

traceybath · 05/04/2009 19:15

I'd have thought about a £100 unless its someone you know really well who may do it for less i guess.

willowthewispa · 05/04/2009 19:19

At least £100 I would think - 14 waking hours at minimum wage is £80, then £30 for the overnight?

I'm a nanny, and if I did this for the family I work for I'd want £175.

hobbgoblin · 05/04/2009 19:23

I pay £70 for overnight from about 8pm til early next morning. 24 hours is a minimum of £100. A sleep nanny will cost around £150 so anything between £100 and £150 I'd say.

lindseyfox · 05/04/2009 19:54

Depends where you are, how experienced and qualified the person is, is it at your house or would it be at a childminders home?

I charge £175 per 24hrs plus £10 an hr for any off hours so from 10.30am through til 12.30pm the following day would be £195.

I am in east midlands.

LittlePaws · 05/04/2009 21:18

I am a Childminder in West Yorkshire and would Charge for one child in my home £85 in total, made up of £49 for the Day time (14 hours at £3.50 per hour) and £36 for the overnight (12 hours at £3.00 per hour).

ravenAK · 05/04/2009 21:26

Our CM has done this for us once at a flat rate of £6/ph, from 1pm until 3am (3dc).

Other CM will only do overnights in her home, charges per child @ £3/ph (but only prepared to have the older 2!), but - bless her - doesn't charge between 12-6am.

So I think basically it depends where you are & whether the person you're doing already looks after your kids (both CM know our dc well, have an established relationship with them & get a regular income from us...) - but you're probably looking at not much change from £100-150.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/04/2009 09:20

hi - i do this often

I charge £200 for 24hrs but I am very experienced and also my area pays well

this works out a rate of £10ph from 7am - 7pm (120) then bs rate of £10 till midnight (50) and then £30 sleepover till 7am

even if you paid your babysitter £6per hr it would still cost you
£132 £6x17hrs and then sleepover

where are you?

FantasticMissFox · 06/04/2009 11:26

When I do sleepovers, I charge half my hourly rate for the time the children are asleep. So it would be £6 ph from 10.30am to 7.30pm and 7am to 1pm and £3 ph from 7.30pm to 7am. Total coming to £124.50 if my maths is right.

I am in the South West and young so I may be cheaper than your babysitter.

AtheneNoctua · 06/04/2009 11:39

I'd pay £100. I could probably find it for less, but £100 is in the fair range. I would pay more if one of the kids is very young and you therefore want someone with a lot of experience, like a night nanny.

Hi
Thanks for all your replies. We are in London so its probably the higher end of all your suggestions - kids are 6 and 3.
