CM Club - Nap Facilities - WDYD when they outgrow cot?

One of my mindees has just turned 2, still requires naps but has pretty much outgrown the cot. She's gone to a bed at home but is still using the cot at mine. She sleeps fine but won't for much longer so it's time to look at what to do next. We have a toddler bed in the loft which may fit in with the other cots but wondering if there are any other idea's?

TIA

Maybe one of those pull out child sofa beds.
One of me mindees likes to sleep on one of our sofas (obviously does this at home too).

I'd be happy with the sofa but not sure she would actually go to sleep plus think mum wants some kind of bed. I will look into child sofa beds as not thought of that!

I've had a similar situation and spoke to parents who suggested a 'ready bed' so I got one of these. Goes up and down in minutes and is totally washable and Ofsted didn't comment on it this week.

I was just going to suggest that saz! The parents could even use it for holidays (assuming they pay for it of course). Our travel cot lives at the cm full time apart from when we actually go away.

However for a 2-3 year old I would recommend the type with the kind of "bumper" sides and my dds roll off the "normal" flat type.

I think they are great. You can also pick them up on Ebay at a reasonable price. I like the fact that they are washable.

One of the travel cots I've got is narrow and long maybe you could egt one of those?

looneytune · 02/04/2009 14:27

We've discussed ready beds and she's sort of ok with it but think she'd prefer her to be in a bed of some type as mentioned something 'firmer'. Think it's more for the overnight care as this has stopped for now until I have something more suitable for all night.

LMGs - you got a link to this sort of travel cot? I thought mind were quite long but she's the same length so if anything longer then that would be great!

I don't know...........if the mum would be happy with the ready bed, it might be better as then maybe my 9 month old could have his own room and not be with his brother where they are both really squashed

Need to do some more thinking I think!

I've had mindee overnight several nights on the ready bed. It's convient and easily put away, I like it as it feels childminding has taken over in all my house.

Do you have the mindee on a full time basis? if so then a perment bed would make sense, but if it's only part time is it worth it and they will soon be at a age when they won't want a sleep at all.

looneytune · 02/04/2009 14:43

They are booked for every day (all day) but 1 day a week usually doesn't come so yeah, pretty much full time

how about camping beds? they can be easily put away afterwards

SillyMillysMummy · 02/04/2009 16:41

or this nursery bed is the same thing but smaller, big to store though i think

I have 2.5 year old twins, and at their crèche all children sleep on mattresses on the floor. Seems to work brilliantly. The mattresses look like large cot mattresses, , about 3-4 in thick. I've sometimes seen one of my children with half their body on the (carpet) floor as they rolled off half way through their sleep, but it didn't bother them - he just went on sleeping! The mattresses are stored away upright in a cupboard when they are not in use.

When I went to view cms I asked where the children nap - and was told 'oh they just drop off where they like'- ie in living rooms. Not my eldest- no way on earth they would. We chose a nursery.
Now at nursery- ages 3-4 ,naps are taken on v large floor cushions- no problems. /the 2-3yos sleep on a kiddysize camp bed type affair- they fold up v easily, for storage.

Mine have used blow up beds or double quilt folded in half for matress with a blankets.
