Do you charge parents for school holidays and summer holidays even if they dont need your service?

Who are you wanting to ask?

My advice would be to post a new message detailing in the title who your message is targeted at plus the subject matter.

Example Title: Childminders - Do you charge parents in school holidays?

If that is the question you wanted to ask, then the answer is that some childminders will charge full rate, others won't charge at all, others will charge a retainer fee (be that 50% or some other percentage of your usual weekly fee). There is no standard method of pricing childcare services... each childminder can dictate their own business terms.

nannynick · 01/04/2009 22:54

Also, it helps to say if you are Parent using a service, or a service provider - such as a childminder.

You want to identify this because the answer to a question may vary depending on the view point.

If you are new to Mumsnet you will soon get used to the amount of detail required when posting messages asking for advice. Over on AIBU sometimes posters can be requested to provide almost a life history

Aww Nick you are nice

I would have just said

"yes"

katsim · 03/04/2009 19:22

Katsim - Sorry I was teasing Nick not you......

nannynick · 03/04/2009 20:47

Welcome to Mumsnet and in particular to this section of Talk, where the childcarers gather. Combined together, this Mumsnet Community has a huge amount of experience and knowledge about almost every aspect that you can think of regarding Home Based Childcare.

Ask a question... get an answer... but don't always expect to like the answer you get

nannynick · 03/04/2009 20:50

Katsim - do tell me us about yourself. Are you a childcare provider, a parent who uses a childcare provider, a bit of both, or something else?

KatyMac · 03/04/2009 20:59

You smooth talker you, stop flirting with Katsim

Hiya Katsim, as Nick says welcome (but we're a bit mad here)

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 03/04/2009 21:58

"If you are new to Mumsnet you will soon get used to the amount of detail required when posting messages asking for advice."

But be careful not to post too much info in the OP, or you may be accused of trolling.

(Yes, this has happened to me, you can't bloody win. )

minderjinx · 04/04/2009 07:37

I don't know what trolling means - can someone enlighten me?

bigdonna · 04/04/2009 11:11

i have minded children whom i dont charge for holidays as i dont want them in hols as i have my children plus holiday children only so quite happy to have term time only.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 04/04/2009 14:43

Trolling is posting to cause a reaction, rather than actually looking for or offering help. It happens on every message board on t'internet, and can be funny, but mostly it's annoying and can be hurtful if someone's spent a lot of time and energy supporting a fake.

minderjinx · 06/04/2009 19:04

Thank you.

katsim · 07/04/2009 20:45

Welcome . Am quite new myself and they're a lovely bunch once you get to know them

I look after a teacher's children and don't charge during holidays - that way, I can fill the place if anyone needs holiday cover whereas if I was charging a 'retainer' I would have to keep the place open incase she needed me.

For other parents, I charge full fee when they take their holidays, whether during term-time or during school holidays. I don't charge for my own holidays though.

Each contract is individual between you and the family - make sure you are both clear about what is agreed before you 'sign on the dotted line'. good luck

HSMM · 07/04/2009 21:40

I have some term time only children and some holiday only children, but that is my choice. They have all offered to pay me retainers for the time they don't use, which I have not charged, as I have no intention of looking after their children at other times. Up to you.
