Hi,
I am a new Ofsted registered childminder and I need advice regarding Public Liability Insurance. I can not decide if I should buy it from NCMA or Morton and Michael. At the moment I only see a big price difference beetween them.
Is anything else hidden behind the price? Any tips or advice plz.

you should be able to get a copy of the key features of the policy and so you will be able to compare them like for like.

NCMA provide paperwork alongside theirs?

What contracts/attendance register will you be using

NCMA are very user friendly for the new childminder

MM includes babysitting cover, NCMA requires you to buy their babysitting contracts.
My last NCMA policy allowed me up to 12 children, MM said 10 (which is more than enough for me lol)
MM have provided very helpful informative email replies to my queries. Over the years NCMA have ignored many of my emails, 3 replies didn't answer my question at all.

But NCMA work to support childminders, they are the ones who campaign on our behalf - eg the tax agreement, and trying to get the food premises registrations standardised nationally. Without NCMA we're completely on our own, so a lot of childminders feel obliged to buy NCMA products to support them.

NCMA have provided very useful member handbooks, they are stopping the handbooks but putting it all on their website. But you'll only be able to access those pages if you are a member. They are also now bringing out their magazine 6 times a year instead of quarterly. It remains to be seen whether they will be more helpful. IMO They are very pro EYFS & government (and their own products!) and sometimes you get more realistic advice on forums, but still fairly informative. I think its a good idea to be an NCMA member, for at least your first year to have access to that info, even if you choose your insurance with MM.
