Do you think it's okay for your nanny to

Let your child handle a nappy bag (with dirty pooey nappy inside) ?
My nanny lets my DD do this, and she says it's not dirty.
I disagree - I always wash my hands after handling a dirty nappy.

Am I being precious?

I think it is fine for your nanny to let your child take a dirty nappy in a bag and place it in a bin. Otherwise your child should not be handling a full nappy bag.

EdwardBear · 24/03/2009 12:58

If nappy is sealed inside bag and the child is helping by carrying to bin then I'd say thats fine

SadMarg · 24/03/2009 13:00

Well, the nappy bag is clean (assuming plastic one), so I guess it's not dirty, but why the heck would you want your child to handle it anyway??? Setting yourself up for having it opened by accident at some point. Anyway, if you don't want her to, then she shouldn't, regardless of what the nanny thinks.

Thanks for replies.
I do have a bee in my bonnet about cleanliness.
My DD has recently started dragging wet nappies out of the bathroom bin - and I'm sure it's because nanny lets her 'help' take bagged up nappy to big bin outside

if they are bagged ,and the child is "helping" ( and not playing with them lol)i dont see the problem TBH

flowerybeanbag · 24/03/2009 13:54

My DS likes 'helping' carry his nappies to the outside bin, so I don't see a problem with it.

However whether YABU in not wanting your DD to touch them is irrelevant really, the point is if you've told your nanny you don't want this happening she should be following your wishes.

AtheneNoctua · 24/03/2009 13:57

Yes, I think you are being precious. She is learning to clean up.

i think you are being precious, and also, small children sometimes do things whether anyone 'lets' them or not. The chances are your nanny has stopped allowing this but your dd enjoys it so does it anyway.

very precious

i made let my 3yr take his younger sisters pooey nannpy to the bin this morning ( to help me)

i am sure my mb wouldnt object - i will ask her tonight

willowthewispa · 24/03/2009 19:41

I also make let my 2yr old charge put his bagged dirty nappies in the bin. The bag is clean - he's not sticking his hands in poo!
