Safeguarding Children Course

I have been looking for a Safeguarding Children Course as I am studying for my NVQ3 and thought it would be a good idea to enhance my work, after a discussion at the local childminding group, most of the other minders informed me I should already have this as a legal requirement, which should be renewed every 3 years like first aid. Rushing home I studied the welfare requirements of the EYFS and found that it is indeed written that childminders should attend a course (although it doesn't state other settings should) I have had 2 inspections and started the process of becoming a network childminder and this has never been mentioned.

Is it only me.....

You should be able to do the course online. Contact your local council EYDCP/FIS. Login details for the course were provided in my Training Brochure, so if you have got details from your EYDCP of local courses, have a look in the booklet to see if it contains the login details for Safeguarding Children course.

How much does it cost? I need a course to pass my NVQ 3 and the only ones here are in the evening and start at 7, whilst I'm still working! So if I could do one online it would be amazing!

Mine didn't cost anything... free to all registered childcare providers (including registered nannies).

Just looked in my Spring Update to the training directory - and there is a physical course that can be attended, which is 3 hours in duration. Again it's free to all registered childcare providers.

So contact your area Early Years Service and ask them about the course.
For nannies who are not Ofsted registered, you may not qualify to go on the course (due to funding issues) but always worth asking, you never know.

Dammit, wish I was registered! I'm not because I need to be qualified first but I can't do this course until I'm registered, silly that

I'll speak to my tutor about it she's bugging the college about sorting a course out for during the day as she's pretty sure there must be others who can't attend it any other time

I've found one for the end of April which is a whole Saturday, (all the others are weekdays - no chance there) 1 hours drive away, apparently the 3 hour courses are only refreshers and I need to do a full 6 hours - bugger!! and although subsidised still costs £10 - oh well at least its peace of mind when it's done. Thanks for all your help.

if you contact the your local safeguarding childrens boards they run training and will be able to tell you which ones are most appropriate for you and the dates they do some half days sessions (3hrs) that are held in the eve so you attend 2 of those rather than a whole day if easier.

these training sessions are free to those working with children and families

I'm speaing to my tutor tomorrow so will write it at the top of my list of things to organise Thanks!
