Contact your local council Early Years Dept. They may be running courses for Nursery Staff/Childminders which you could do.

I did an online one and my inspector was fine with that. I don't have the time or money to go on a "proper" course.

Supernanny19 - Parents are not going to expect you to have done this course as a nanny. While doing the course at some point (I did one in 1997) there is no requirement currently for nannies to do this course.
If you are looking at courses to make yourself more employable as a nanny, concentrate on the key things:

  • Meet minimum requirements for Ofsted registration (Common Core, 12 Hour Early Years First Aid, having insurance)
  • Childcare Training... NVQ Level 3
  • Having a full drivers license (for a manual car, not only automatic)

I'm doing mine with the "Virtual College" on
www.vctms.co.uk. I have 12 modules to get through and a test at the end. When you pass they send you a certificate in the post.
It costs £28.
Local courses around here cost £50!
