Oo, just to add, I'm also interested

And can someone also explain why this is beneficial, I know a bit about it but not much!

Call Ofsted 08456 404040 to request an application form.

PixiNanny - the aim of the register is to regulate nannies and ensure they meet minimum requirements such as qualification, first aid, insurance. In practical terms it means parents can pay nannies using childcare vouchers from their employer, or tax credits.

Thank you

I registered Online. Think you can still do that here.

The requirements for being on the register, plus additional information about the register can be found in: Guide To Registration On The Childcare Register. Nannies are on the Voluntary Part of the register.

Thank you I knew you needed a qualie which is why I haven't looked into it yet as I'm working on a CCLD lvl 3.

Nicadooby · 28/03/2009 19:11

Hi there,
I need to register with ofsted but haven't sorted out my nanny insurance yet, Do you need to have your insurance details before you can register with ofsted?
Thanks

nannynick · 28/03/2009 19:28

You can arrange nanny insurance easily enough, it's just a phone call and giving your credit card details. MM can arrange it on Monday for you.
Not sure if/when Ofsted check that you have insurance. It may now be in the documents list that the post-office checks when you take them the CRB paperwork - but it wasn't when I registered with Ofsted (over a year ago).
Would advise completing the Online registration with Ofsted tonight/tomorrow and arranging the insurance on Monday.

magicOC · 29/03/2009 00:20

OFSTED told me that as long as I had insurance in place by the time they came to inspect then they would still register me (2 months ago).

nannynick · 29/03/2009 08:36

CR14.1 says: Childminders and home childcarers must be covered by their own insurance in respect of liability which may be incurred for death, injury, public liability, damage or other loss.

The insurance certificate will have a From and To date on it, so when Ofsted do an inspection they will be able to see from the certificate(s) the periods in which you did have insurance.

magicOC - While Ofsted have told you something which is probably true, I do not feel they should have told you that. Reason being, a nanny does not get a Registration Inspection like a Childminder does, so in theory a nanny may not get inspected by Ofsted for many years following their date of registration.

Nicadooby - if you are not actually providing childcare at this moment in time, then arranging insurance is not urgent. However if you are providing childcare, then I feel that you do need to sort out the insurance as fast as possible.

my (new) nanny out in her reg forms in Nov last year- and still isn't registered.
Does anyone else have this problme?

I believe that she has done it- i saw all the relevant paperwork so I am sure that she has put them all through.
But we are still waiting!
And I am not working for 2 months and it would be great to be able to pay through DH's work.
Grrrr.

Xenatheoriginal · 29/03/2009 08:54

Oops; The nanny agency we have gone through say it is really quick at the moment?

opps - if your nanny has not yet been invoiced... start the process over again, resubmitting the form online.
If they have paid the invoice, then they should call Ofsted and chase it, providing the details on the invoice. Ofsted may not be aware that the invoice has been paid, or may be missing something they needs following up.
Also, has the CRB check come through?

nannynick · 29/03/2009 09:33

In my past experience with Ofsted and prior to that SureStart, the process can take 8 to 12 weeks. You are now over that timescale, so it is time for your nanny to chase the application.

magicOC · 29/03/2009 10:09

HI nannynick, my insurance was in place only a few days after the registration was in place anyway, but, their advice is confusing then if they can pull you up on dates during inspection??? My advice to all, whether you are registered or not IS get insurance, better to be covered in any event.

With regards to times, SURESTART took 17wks, OFSTED took 4wks for me.Would def follow up as nannynick says. Your nanny should have e reference no. she/he can quote when calling them, in my experience this has to be the nanny not the employer as they wouldn't discuss my application progress with my employer.

Nicadooby · 29/03/2009 10:52

Thanks Ladies,

I've been with my current family for 6 years now and have been nannying for 14 years but have never had nanny insurance so this is a first for me, but it makes sense to have it.

I've also just found out that the premium is going up by £10 on the 1st of april so it looks like I've got in there just in time. The only thing is that as I'm going to be changing jobs in two months then will it be transferable to the new job?

And does anyone know if ofsted can delay your resigsration until a later date as I won't need it until I start my new job in July?

Thanks again

nannynick · 29/03/2009 11:20

Yes, it is YOUR insurance so it travels with you between jobs. You just let the insurance company know the new details, such as location of work, number of children.

I doubt that Ofsted can delay registration. If you need it for July, apply now. It can take a while - 3 months I do not feel is an unrealistic timescale.

PS. I'm not a lady

navyeyelasH · 29/03/2009 12:53

It took 3 months for my registration; submitted in Nov came through in Feb and I had to call them at least once a week to find out why it was taking so long especially as my CRB had come through.

I filled in the forms submitted them via the post office, paid the fee and then had my CRB back then they asked for me to send in my first aid certificate & insurance before registration cert came through. OFSTED are a pain in the bum in my experience!

gizzy1973 · 29/03/2009 15:18

did my insurance over the internet so had the number straight away for registration form

filled my form in november and had it all sorted by end of december - so really quick considering there is a name change in it as well cos of getting married

crispycake · 29/03/2009 15:56

Hi
Im ringing up tomorrow to request a application form to become a registerd nanny. i know you need insurace and a first aid certificate, my first aid runs off may 2009! will this be a problem?

nannynick · 29/03/2009 18:04

You may need to show the first aid certificate to the person at the Post Office. You may need to send it to Ofsted (they recently asked us all to send them a photocopy). So it may be an issue. So make sure you are booked on a course that will give you a first aid certificate dated as closely to your current one ending as possible.

Nicadooby · 29/03/2009 19:42

Thanks everyone, (sorry nannynick!)

I'll sort it now with my current employer's address then change it when I start my new job.
