Sorry to be a pain. We were all set with childcare but I am having a real wobble about the nursery we have chosen after our settling in session yesterday. But I just don't know if we can afford a nanny. Can anyone tell me roughly what I would pay as a gross annual salary for a nanny and any extras I have to pay on top?
Thanks.

Why dont you nannyshare?
www.nannyshare.co.uk you would probably pay 5pound per hour per family.

Thanks for the response. For a whole heap of reasons, I don't think nanny share will work. I'm really looking for a gross annual salary guide but wonder if such a thing exists?

Full time 50 hours a week? And where are you?

At a minimum, I would think a nanny would want £300 net a week - total cost to you including her tax and NI and your employers NI will be something like £420 a week - so £21,840 a year. Plus food, a kitty for activities, mileage, heating/electricity in the house.

You could pay up to £500 net a week - total £747 cost to you, £38,844.

London wages are quite high compared to other places. If you would consider taking a newly qualified nanny, maybe someone with au pair experience who wants their first nanny job, or someone who's been working in a nursery and wants to move into nannying, you may be able to find someone for less money. Even so, the total annual cost to you won't be very much less than £20,000.

That's great - thanks for the info.
