Thread for celebrating fab nannies!

I've just realised that people are being put off getting nannies (and especially at a time when there are fewer jobs around) because of some of the negative threads on here about bad experiences. So please post here if you have/have had a fab nanny!

My nanny is fabulous. I love her, my DS loves her and she has turned my really rather spoilt DS (PFB) into a good-natured, polite little boy who loves life.

My nanny is fab. She worked when she was ill so I wouldn't have to call in and miss a day of work at my new job. I know I know, I am a bad bad employer for letting her do this. But, my job pays for her job.

I should probably go buy her something to thank her for doing this...

mummytoprincess · 10/03/2009 19:43

Maybe if more employers appreciated their nannies as you obviously do, there wouldn't be negative threads!

I wish my last boss would've thanked me even once for all the hard work I did with her children....Hopefully my new boss will realise how had I work!

AtheneNoctua · 10/03/2009 19:59

What did your old employer do?

navyeyelasH · 10/03/2009 21:59

I just wanted to say thank you for this thread - I have tried to avoid reading the others but this one makes me .

Babbity · 10/03/2009 22:03

Mine is brilliant - reliable, resourceful, tolerant, endlessly patient, totally trustworthy. Such a find.

navyeyelasH · 10/03/2009 22:09

her name isn't Hayley is it

Simplyme · 10/03/2009 22:15

Are you all discussing me???

whooosh · 11/03/2009 10:31

I loved both of our nannies-they really did become part of the family and I am gutted that our last one is back in Australia.

Trust was the biggest thing-I trustedthem both totally and never worried about my DD when in their care.

AtheneNoctua · 11/03/2009 11:56

Back to my point on what I should do to thank my nanny... anyone have any ideas? It will have to be something small... say around £30 or £40 worth. We belong to a gym/club. Should I get her vouchers there or is that totally blah blah been there done that?

Again, I'm looking for something thoughtful, but NOT EXPENSIVE.

orangina · 11/03/2009 12:16

I would love to be given a treatment voucher. Treat without guilt ("do I really deserve it?" etc...). Sounds great to me...

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2009 12:44

athene - agree treatment vouchers towards massage/manicure etc would be nice

sure if my mb was on here

she would say that I am a fab nanny and she appreicates me - I know this as she says it to my face

we dont want a thank you every day - just every now and again - or a bottle of wine/flowers etc

but a thank you costs nothing and is always nice

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 11/03/2009 15:42

how about an orchid - they are very pretty, very easy to look after, and don't have to be too expensive.

M & S do some very nice orchids.

PixiNanny · 11/03/2009 15:59

I agree on the treatment voucher, as much as I love flowers, I know I'd manage to kill it somehow

AtheneNoctua · 11/03/2009 17:43

I don't know where she'd put a flower in her messy room. Think I'll get her something at the gym/spa.

whooosh · 11/03/2009 19:13

Slightly off topi-on subject of messy rooms....both out nannies were fastidiously tidy, new Au Pair is the complete opposite-room looks like a warzone....does it bother you?

nannynick · 11/03/2009 19:31

I'm incredibly hard to buy things for, though if I had Spa membership, to then I would probably like a treatment voucher... or a voucher for whatever extras are available.

Messy Rooms - I've worked for a variety of families, some whom have liked things messy, some liked things all tidy. I prefer a bit of both really... semi-organised chaos.
I've not done live-in work, so not so sure about it if you mean the room in which your AuPair lives. You probably need to have a word if it gets so bad that smell drifts out of the room.

AtheneNoctua · 11/03/2009 21:00

So long as it's not a health hazard and it stays in her room, I can turn a blind eye. But if we have dishes full of food stacking up, then I say something. Also, I get a tad annoyed if the belonging in her roo are not all hers. For example if I spend an hour looking for a particular shirt for DD on a Saturday only to later discover I couldn't find it cause nanny has it in her room of half done laundry then that would annoy me.

There is no perfect employee. She has lots of great qualities. But, tidiness is not one of them.

So, a voucher to the gym it is...

whooosh · 12/03/2009 08:19

I guess one has to pick the right battles
I agree toally.
