Sorry been stuck doing maths homework and am MN-ing while kiddies are doing homework thats too hard for me.
THe job sounds fab but I am here now I as much as the job has its crappy moments I will stay as its easier to stay then move and I do like the kids and we do have fun together. I do wish you all the best searching for a nanny though. Its not something I would want to go through. Looking for a job was hard enough.
What was this about namechaning? Did I miss something?

I've seen 2 live-in nanny jobs (5 days a week, average type hours, 8-6ish) advertised near here (Cambridge) at £200net per week - by agencies! I would have thought £250 minimum but it seems nanny pay is really dropping round here...might be worth doing a nannyjob.co.uk search for your area and getting an idea of what is being advertised.

no1andno2 · 04/03/2009 18:33

Thanks Millarkie that seems low to me. I currently pay 290 a week but its only an average of 43 hours a week over the year.

What I ideally want is a ft committment all the time albeit that during term time musch of the day will be child free and some of it frre time.

I am thinking around 300 to 325 net a week would be very generous.

I work in North London and earn £420 a week. 7-30 till 7 with 2 nights babbysitting and a free one bedroom flat all bills paid.

PixiNanny · 08/03/2009 12:07

I'm a live-in near Bath/Bristol. On an au pairs wage (£100) but I have no qualies and only work 30 hours a week, if that. I'm happy with it as it means I have 6 hours a day to do some volunteering (3 days a week) & work towards an NVQ so that I can get a well paid live-out job in the future

I babysit on occasion and put the kids to bed once a week-ish?
And the family are amazing to work for

willowthewispa · 08/03/2009 13:24

Pixi - I too started out as an unqualified nanny, living-in and earning £100 a week (though I did 40 hours). It's a great way to start out. I work in Bristol now btw, where abouts are you?

nannynick · 08/03/2009 13:25

Pixi - just thought I'd write to say that I think you have the right attitude... while your pay is low... you are seeing it as being a training opportunity. You are getting the experience of doing a live-in job, getting time to do some volunteering (children related work I guess) plus doing an NVQ... while not having to pay out for rent, bills etc. Once you have qualified, you can move on to better things. Plus of course, you like the family... so seems to be working out well for you and them. Good luck with your course.

Sorry for HiJacking the thread

PixiNanny · 08/03/2009 15:41

willowthewispa - I'm in cirencester Not too far from you. I love my job so much, my two are 8yo g and 11yo b and though can be pains (esp J, 11yo boy) they're cool kids 99% of the time!

nannynick - My volunteering is one morning in a charity shop (I've always wanted to try it out and here's my chance!) and 2 mornings in an 'early years' class (or reception as I've always known it haha) with the 4/5 yos. I love that age group and I did want to work with them, but my MB told me that she didn't mind me volunteering at the school as long as I did my job well! My tutor for CCLD is going to try speak to the local nursery to get me some experience with babies. I have work experience with 3-18yos (nursery volunteering in college, reception class in my brief stint at uni and 7+ working for PGL, an adventure company here in the UK) and my Mum and Nan were both childminders until I was 13 & Nan a foster carer now, so brief experiences with toddlers and babies. This course is just so I have an actual qualie to back up my experience!

Also, my host family are really okay with my boyfriend staying a couple of nights on occasion which is an added bonus as if it wasn't fr that we probably wouldn't be together

Hi

I was just wondering what you'd expect to pay a nanny working 35 hours a month live out ? I'm in oxfordshire. I've been offered a position and have been asked what salary i'd expect and I'm really not sure! tia

nbee84 · 10/05/2009 18:55

35 hours a month? or a week?

£8 net per hour (almost £10 gross) seems to be the going rate around there - so £280 net.

nbee84 · 10/05/2009 18:55

For someone with a few years experience I should have added.

tokyt · 10/05/2009 20:23

35 hours a week! sorry i didn't say! I have almost 6 years experience of all ages.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/05/2009 13:05

no 1 and no 2 - hope new nanny is working out ok -sure she is

i dont understand how you can be offered a job without discussing money - i need a certain amounteach week to pay my bills/mortgage etc so i have to find out what the job is paying, or we both waste our time if too low

i would have though £7nett for 6years exp
