What is your best No Cook Playdough Recipe?

I tend to use this one:

1/2 cup of salt
1 cup of flour
1 tablespoon of cream of tartar
1 tablespoon of oil
1 cup of boiling water (with food colouring added)

Is this the same as your recipe... or do you have one that seems better?

What have you added to playdough? Glitter, Lavender oil for example?

Oh.....only every done on the hob Nick! Will try this as would save a messy pan after I've only ever added glitter to playdoh. I actually did this as part of some mindee Christmas presents this year. Made green playdoh, added LOADS of silver and gold glitter, cut into Christmas tree shapes, put in sealed bag and then into a decorated box to go with a playdoh set I bought them.

Think LMGs makes with lavender oil sometimes? Supposed to be calming isn't it?

I LOVE making playdoh!!

i use the tanya ramsey one in her family cook book

its great and keeps for months in the fridge

cant remember it iff top of head (book at work) but i dont think i use hot water

I do the one in the pan or sometimes the microwave

my colleague adds cocoa powder, looks and smells like chocolate

you can also use powder paint if you have no food colouring

I do the same as you nannynick. I like it because, up to the hot water stage, the kids can taste and mix and talk about the texture. In short, they can be very involved. It does need to be kept in the fridge tho, and I found adding some kitchen paper on top stops it getting too slimey.

Have you tried slime? Cornflour and water. Does create a mighty big mess, but a huge hit with the kids.

I can never remember the quantities for Cornflour and Water... how much of each?

I'm babysitting 5 children (3 to 8 yrs) tonight, so thought making playdoh may be a fun thing to do.

cornflour and water we call gloop, just keep adding the cornflour till you get the right consistency, great stuff!!

nannynick · 28/02/2009 17:14

But how do you know when it is the right consistency? When in movement, it's like a solid but when you stop moving it, it behaves like a liquid.

that's the whole fun of it!

2 cups flour (any kind)
1 cup salt
1 cup water
2 table spoons of cooking/veg oil
food colouring
mix it all together then kneed on a floured surface until all one colour!

thats the tana ramsey one nick - I've made it a few times with ex charges, we've added glitter a couple of times, not much else though

it keeps for an absolute age when wrapped in clingfilm in the fridge
