Hi and thanks for reading .

I am looking at working ...in healthcare ... 7 days on and 7 OFF .
The On week would be mon to fri 9-5 And would include being On call from home for those 7 days . Can'T say a lot about it ...but basically call out rate is low ..but if called could be away 2-3 hours .

Really need your help on this girls .

Partner works away mon-friday ...so hes only home at week ends .

I have one son ...hes nearly 2 .
I would like to have him in nursery ...maybe 3-4 days a week .
So the au pair would really just have to do a bit of house work , help me in the evenings , maybe a day of childcare .. BUT primarily be a baby sitter for 5-7 nights a week .... Then she could have every alternative week OFF ( if she wisheD ) ..

Is my plan doable or Not ?
thanks .

You would have to be very fussy about your AP during recruitment for them to be ok sole charge of a 2 year old. APs are better suited to looking after children who are older than 3 (able to make their needs known, toilet trained etc).
Having said that, there are APs and there are APs - my last one would have been fine with a 2 year old since she had 18 months experience working in a nursery and excellent language skills.
Any chance that you could afford a live-in nanny for the first year (until your son is a little older?)

I would think most APs would be capable of watching a 2 year old for 2 or 3 hours at a time.
