Mothers help

Hello!
So after I've had the baby (which isn't for a while!) I'd like to return to work but working from home and only 3 days a week. My boss is fine with this but would like me to have some childcare assistance while I'm working from home.
We live in a 1 bedroom flat, so a classic au pair isn't going to work for us. What I'd really like is an extra pair of hands who can take the baby for walks, do changes etc and maybe a bit of cleaning, working 3 days a week, from say 9.30 - 5.30. How much would this be roughly? Does such a thing exist?
Many thanks for any help,

Where are you? I'd be interested in doing something like that but no one ever seems to want a mother's help they either want a nanny or au pair.

However a nursery only costs about £25-£30 a day. A cm usually about £3-£4 an hour. You aren't going to be able to get someone to come to your house for that. I reckon £60 a day sounds reasonable.

I'm in Putney - SW London.

Really didn't realise that nursery costs where that reasonable!

What start date were you looking for?

Snowfalls108 · 24/02/2009 12:27

Not for a while yet! Looking ahead until late in the year.

In my area they are cheap. My friend lives in Surrey and pays £55 a day!!

nappyaddict · 24/02/2009 13:15

Apparently it's gone up to £57.50 now!!

nappyaddict · 24/02/2009 13:33

It seems for a childminder in london you will probably pay about £5 per hour or £35-£40 a day.

I have found one which is £4.00 per hour for part time, £3.50 for full time but all the others are more expensive than this.

evuscha · 24/02/2009 16:20

I would be happy to do that! Get in touch with me at [email protected] if you want, and we can discuss it further... I´m planning to come to London (Wimbledon area) around June mainly for studying, so the number of days/hours suits me well..

Thanks for all your replies - that's great to hear.
Nappyaddict - that's really helpful.
Evauschak - as soon as everything is confirmed I'll be in touch.

I would say £6-£7 gross an hr would be reasonable as you are looking for a mothers help rather than an experienced and qualified nanny.

might be better to use childcare out of the house

only because in a 1 bed flat how much peace would you get to work ?! with a baby and mothers help in the house

also some childcarers do not like / would prefer not to work/ing with the parents at home

if on another floor / in an office etc not so bad
