Hi, my certificate states

may care for no more than 4 children under 8. of these not more than 1 may be in the early years age group at any one time (Early Years register, compulsary part of the child care register)

then when caring for children in the early years age group who are in full time education, may increase the number in the early years age group by the number in full time education, providing the maximum number is not exceeded(eARLY YEARS REGISTER)

Basically, i need to know what children go where! i have my own 2 dd age 4 and 1. thanks

Just phone Ofsted and ask them - they're really helpful! The numbers on the bottom of the certificate!

Sounds like your four year old is at school? Or about to start school? Its to do with what they call the rising 5s - children in full time education but who are still four may be classed as a 5 year old for the purposes of ratios.

I phoned and checked my numbers this morning as I was about to sign up a new client over 8 - wanted to be sure I could have more than 6 children if some were over 8!!!! They just answered my question which was fab.

i did phone them and they said i could have 4 under 5 which is the variation i requested but i dont know about the early years age group thing. my dd starts ft school in sept.i think this certificate doesnt state that. its so confusing!

i think the certificate does state that, the bit about early years and being in ft education. it seems to me that its the extra 1 for the variatin that it doesnt state (unless that extra one is in ft edu too)

SillyMillysMummy · 19/02/2009 16:38

sorry scrap that above, it does state that you can have 1 preschooler PLUS when your early years child (preschooler atm too) is in ft you can have another early years

sunnyshine · 19/02/2009 20:01

thank you all for your replies. ok, so if i have my own dd's age 1 and 4 (not in ft education until sept 2009) then i have another 1 year old and another 3 year old. then i have a 4 year old in ft education and a 7 year old. is this within my numbers according to that certificate?

CHANGEDMYLIFE · 19/02/2009 21:09

sorry wrong thread!

SillyMillysMummy · 20/02/2009 08:47

god it gets complicated doesnt it I would email them for a written reply, then you have it in writing. As far as I know your own children dont show on the certificate.
So, just dealing with mindees and not your own...
The certificate only states 1 in early years age group, so no, you cant have 1yo and 3yo, unless the 3yo is in ft edu.

sunnyshine · 20/02/2009 09:02

thanks that is what i was worried about. think they have given me the wrong information again!

thinking about it, the standard numbers is 6 children under 8, you have 2 of your own, so that certificate doesnt have any variation on it. You need the certificate to state 2 in early years age group, if that then remains still 4 under 8, you cannot take on any more when your dd goes to school in sept (which is what i think it would say)

sunnyshine · 20/02/2009 09:46

thank you. will phone them again today! i will let you know what happens.
