CM club: overnight stay for LO when mum goes into labour

One of my mindees' mums has asked whether I could have her 22 month old stay over if she goes into labour at night. It makes sense for him to be with me because we are very close and he probably knows me best out of anyone outside his family (as happens often with little ones).

I feel honoured to be asked! but i am not registered for overnight care. Mum has offered to pay me - but WWYD: i am thinking of not charging because I would love the LO to stay here and because I am not registered.

EDD is mid May, should i register for overnight care just to be on the safe side?

Maybe I could just see it as LO's first sleep over at a friend's house.

I think I would register - it's a very tricky one because as you say it's almost a favour for a friend, but just remember the little one wouldn't be insured.....so registering might be safer

I registered for overnight care for the same scenario. It is still on my registration, so is a handy backup.

Could you not go to them in the night - instead of them having to get him up, and come to you before then going to the hospital - then you can bring him to your house at 7 am, when he wakes.

Numberfour, if you have your upstairs registered for use anyway (say for naps in a bedroom), then registering for overnight care should be fine.

I have recently removed overnight from my registration as i don't use upstairs for naps and don't do overnight mindees anymore. Means Ofsted only have half of my house to nosy round inspect. ou could always remove it afterwards but I would do it properly just in case. You have to cover your own back for these situations.

Thanks for all the advice! I think I may go the whole hog and be registered for overnight care.

Twims, I don't really want to go and stay at theirs. Bit silly in that way, but I prefer my own bed and waking up in my own house!

SK, upstairs is registered for the younger ones to sleep. The thing that worries me is that the house is SO small (tiny two up two down)and I wonder if OFSTED would be put off by that. I am only registered for 4 as it is because of the size of my house.
