Why is it that as soon as I'm feeling more or less on top of things... something more comes up!
What are schemas all about?
Just read another thread and have no idea what is being talked about... can't say I've overly studdied EYFS documents, but I thought I got the jist of it!

Google Chris Athey and schemas. This might be helpful.

thats fasinating (above link) it applys to lots of the kids I look after!

I know! Once I had a name for children's phases I started to see them everywhere. Much easier to not get cross at a toddler putting everything (keys, phone etc) in the kitchen bin when you can call it 'containment' and offer lots of alternatives! When you recognise their schema, you can support and extend it, like giving the child a little bag to put bits in, doing posting games and their own little cupboard or box to firtle things away into.

I like schemas.

Thanks for the link... very interesting reading... especially when I think of my daughter and her toy buggy with 5 bags hanging off it, each stuffed full with bits and bobs!
But... do I need to include this in my planning and observations?

No you don't have to at all. You are expected to refer to EYFS, but its entirely personal choice whether you also refer to other ways of categorising children's learning as well.

ok thanks...
Will get my head around everything else then first!
