Recently moved and realise I cannot put my hand immediately on CRB certs for me or DH.....should I panic now?

This is not my first inspection so obviously Ofsted have seen and recorded the CRB check on previous inspections so will they ask for it again?.....

I would not like to say I have lost it - I have just buried in under a pile of paperwork somewhere.......

The CRB people or even Ofsted should have details of it.

I would ring OFSTED & CRB - you should be able to either get a copy or get a new one

Be proactive - that way OFSTED can't blame you

do i actually admit a week before my inspection is due that I may not have them to hand? or do i just hope that she doesn't ask to see them?

Don't they have unique numbers on them?

Would go and get the phone numbers if I could find mine

Just found this on a google search come up on select education - a supply teaching agency...........

Q: I haven't got a CRB/ I've lost my CRB, what do I do?

A: If you do not have an Enhanced Criminal Record Bureau Disclosure you will have to apply for a CRB (costing £36) and wait for this CRB to be returned before you can work for Select. This will take 6-8 weeks. If you have lost your CRB it's a good idea to tear your house apart looking for it, the CRB will not provide another copy 2 months after it was issued.

Oh what a bummer.......what now then?

All you can do is apply for a new one. However, if they have it recorded that they have seen one in the past year, you should be covered. I would apply for one, not mention it, and if they ask, say you are waiting for your new one to arrive.

I lost mine and phoned them- they can't issue copies, sadly. It is a pita and they take so long to come through

CRB checks are out of date as soon as they are carried out, so having the certificates should not be too vital. Ofsted are the ones who carry out the checks so they have a record that your CRB was clear when the check was done. They wouldn't need to see that certificate again. The police should notify them if you've been up to no good as childminding is a flagged profession, and if they had any concerns they'd have to ask for a new CRB check to be done anyway.

Thanks guys - only thing is - who applies for a new one for me - I thought self employed people couln't apply for themselves........

you should not need a new one. I lost mine, and could not get a copy, because, as someone said, they are out of date as soon as they are issued.
However, OFSTED told me that any parent who wants to can call them, and they will confirm that they have seen it, and that I am properly registered and CRB checked.

normansmum · 13/02/2009 14:35

how old is it? official line in nhs is that they are only valid for 6 months. Fwiw I would ring ofsted and explain situation now. hopefully they will be helpful.

squirrel42 · 13/02/2009 17:42

Dylansaunty is right - you don't need another one! Ofsted CRB check you when you register; that's that. It's recorded on their system. Parents know that by being Ofsted registered, you have been CRB checked.

CRB checks are out of date as soon as they are printed! Five minutes later the police could nick you for drunk & disorderly and bang that is something dodgy that is not on that bit of paper that says "all clear".

The police tell Ofsted when childminders do certain dodgy things, and technically you should tell Ofsted of anything criminal you've been up to as well. That's why Ofsted don't make you fill in new CRB disclosure forms first thing every morning...
