Hi, I am a childminder and currently have 3 children part- time after school(ages 6 7 and 8). I have a ds (3).
I advertise in the local area - notice boards, shop windows, word of mouth etc but still v.quiet (have been registered nearly a year now)
So
I am thinking about a taster art/craft/gardening/baking session to get kids in the door.Once in the door and interested offer perhaps once a week/fortnightly session.
Not thought about how much taster session will be either!
Has anyone else done this?
Any ideas would be great.
Have to go now but will be back later
Thanks

Would those sessions be during the day, thus only appeal to parents/carers who care for children during the day - thus who don't need a childminder? Not sure that comes across right - think I mean, isn't it targeted to SAHM's... thus while it may appeal to them to do a Baking Session (thus making mess at someone else's house) they are unlikely to be wanting childcare.
However such a session would give you another income stream, so could be worth doing just from that prospective - not sure how much people would pay.

What age children are you hoping to mind?

raspberrytart · 06/02/2009 20:36

nannynick - thanks for replying, I'm not bothered whether they are through the day or after school, however I'm hoping that this will lead to part/full-time places.
Am I being unrealistic?
Enthusia - Dont mind

How about hosting NCT coffee mornings? This gets post-natal mothers to see your facility. While some of them will be wanting to SAHM's... some of them will I expect be thinking of returning to work. As the parents will be present the entire time, the children don't fall under your ratio.

Where are you based?

nannynick - that sounds like a good idea although I've never been a member myself- is it easy to join?
Supernanny19 - Cumbria
