Calling nanny nick or anyone else who understands Insurance stuff connected with a creche

Ok, so someone has asked me to run a crèche for them during their wedding. I think I have thought of everything but wanted to see what you guys came up with.

There will be 19 children 1 under 1, 1 under 2, 1 aged 4, 5 aged 5, 1 aged 6, 6 aged 7, 3 aged 8-12.

I may think about doing this long term but lets say this is a one off for now. My questions are;

1 how will ratios work?
2 Does anything have to be registered with Ofsted?
3 How much would you charge?
4 Would MM's crèche insurance cover it? And do they have ratio limitations as I can't find anything on their policy!

What else would you think of from a admin/rep tape point of view? (will think about entertaining them once I fathom the bureaucratic side of things!)

Tar in advance!

1)The 2 under 1 will need one person (probably the 4yo too) I think the other 15 will need 2 adults (it's 1 to 8 I think) but you will need 4 in all because of going to the toilet etc.

2)I think it depends upon how many creches are run at the hotel each year (there are limits for not registering with OFSTED - nick will know)

  1. Shed loads - um I provide 4 people for 2 hours for £125 & I make nothing at all

  2. They insure me - ratios need to be normal Childcare ones I understand (that's what they told me)

Think about info about each child - allergies routine etc;risk assessments;secure outside space

It isn't something I know much about I'm afraid. Would expect that MM could advise you with regard to the insurance.

Worth reading the Ofsted: Registration Not Required document. If the creche is for under 4 hours, then reading that document, I don't think Ofsted require it to be registered. You are best advised to contact Ofsted, tell them what you will be doing, how long for, how often on that premises, how often in a year at various locations. Ofsted should then be able to tell you if registration is or isn't required - if it isn't... get a letter from Ofsted stating that - so you can display that letter while the event is taking place.

19 children will need a lot of space, particularly the older children who you won't want running around the same area as the younger children.

Could you contact some of the wedding creche providers to enquire about their services, see what info they give to prospective clients - may help you a bit.

Thanks for the help katy and Nick- have just emailed ofsted so lets see what pearls of wisdom they come back with.

I have also contacted about 6 different creche companies, not many publish prices so waiting to hear about that. It seems most charge between about £20-£40 per child carer and some have extras on top of this like VAT, travel, party bags, booking fees etc. I'm thinking because of the outlay and the distance we would be travelling (1 hr 20min) I'm going to say £35 per hour per person (to include everything) - we will be an experienced bunch (ofsted registered nanny, 2 qualified teachers, 15 years experienced CM). Plus people pay silly amounts on weddings for cakes and such and 19 children will be hard work (tries to justify price but still feels like a greedy bugger!)

My main concern is space to be honest as such a broad range of ages to cater for. It's going to be a tiring day but hopefully still fun.
