Help! Friend has agreed to go for a nanny share - how do we find a nanny!

A friend of mine has agreed in principle to a nanny share for our two boys. We're both going back to work in June when our boys will be one.

How on earth do we now go about finding a nanny?

Do we use an agency or go it alone?

How do we find a contract to use?

How do we interview?

Any help gratefully received - never done this before .

Thank you .

Hi there - where are you based?

ps - your son is sooooo adorable (hope you don't mind me looking at your page )

Supernanny19 · 04/02/2009 11:09

Go to nannyshare.co.uk and post an ad for a a nanny.
State if what you are looking for..3years experience..first aid..crb..ofsted register ( vouchers ) will you want a live out nanny or will she stay at one of your houses?
The average nannyshare salary in london is 6pound per family so thats 12pounds an hour for the nanny..
By the way if your in london im looking for a post in June

Or use nannyjob.co.uk or gumtree.com

I have to say it varies between 10ph - 12ph, credit crunch and all that

I think for a nanny share that involves a young baby you'd want at least 4-5 years of solid sole care nanny experience (but that is only my opinion)

def CRB checked and first aid - what is more important to you, experience or qualifications? or maybe a mix of both?

I'm sure someone with experience of this will be on to give you more information but I hope that helps for now!

ps - I'm in london too+am free from june

depending on age and exp of nanny will depend on what she wants ph

the average wage is £7/8ph and normally nannyshares are wage and a half (tho athene will disagree with me )

so 10/12 ph so costing you both 6ph nett

i know i will be moaned at that i saying nett and not gross

place an ad on www/nannyjob.co.uk or [[www.netmums.co.uk] and also www.gumtree.com

you can try advertising now and then if no luck ( and happy to pay fees) to register with an agency - fee is normally 3weeks salary of nanny

if you want june, then many nannies i know have to give 2months notice so you ideally need to start looking march to have a month to find, interview and check refs, and then for the nanny to work out her notice perios

Aw, WWW, thank you! I think he's adorable too and so will be expecting a nanny to want to work for free cos she'll be soooo lucky to spend any time with him!

Thanks for all the useful links - I think experience will be important, and they will be a live out (we live in Berkshire) but I think my friend and I need to sit down and come up with a list of things that we want before we advertise.

Any other tips?

whose house will the nanny be at or will it be shared over the houses

who provides food for the children you and friend for each child or when in your home you provide and vice versa

annual leave how will that work for both you, friend and nanny

activities and kitty do you and your friend agree on what activities nanny can take babies to and are they affordable to you both.

car seats for nanny - or will one of you provide a nanny car or will nanny need own car and then you pay 40p per mile mileage for any work related mileage

start and finish times and actual days will you both be working the same days or different so will the nanny have both babies every day or just some days

if one of you is going to be late can the nanny still leave on time and leave the child in the care of the other parent

how much notice each family would need to give to leave the share or change arrangements would suggest writing 3mths into contract with other family as it then gives time for the family left to find someone new to share with.

sorry long list but worth thinking about with friend. Good luck def a good idea but need a contract between families no matter how good a friends you are.

hehe - I think that should be on your advert

*lovely nanny needed for adorable son - if you are the lucky person chosen, you will of course gratefully work for free because he is so scrummy

I think its a winner!!

Lol @ WWW

Lindsey, thank you - we had just this conversation this morning. What does happen with a/l, can anyone advise? Do we all need to take the same a/l? That could potentially be a problem - anyone any experience they could share?

We're both working Weds-Fri so that's not a problem, and we will pay mileage rather than provide a car, but it's the leave that could be a deal-breaker .

It's all so complicated .
