Does she know you're leaving?

It seems a bit odd to me to have interviews now for jobs starting in July.

Supernanny19 · 01/02/2009 14:03

Yeah she knows the contract finishes in July..Dont know if she thinks ill stay. The interviews are for march/april but id rather wait for her to ask me what im planning on doing..rather than ask her first..When do you think she may bring it up?

I think you should bring it up now, as it could take a while to get the reference.
When you say the contract finishes in July... are you on a Fixed Term contract?

Supernanny19 · 01/02/2009 14:10

There is no actual date on there .. I said id like to stay until july .. but she tells me everyday im her little angel and she dont know what she would do without me..she always says to the kids ooo what would we do without me ..at first i was like awww..but now im like hmmmm! So i think i will get a good reference..or she could be really shocked im not going to stay longer and turn into MB from hell!

So you are making the decision to leave.
Hmm, tricky one. I relied on previous references when I applied for a new job in that position. Once I had secured a new job, I then told my boss, giving them a school-terms notice.

Supernanny19 · 01/02/2009 14:20

She knows its until July..But i just wonder when she will bring this subject up..should i wait? or should i address it first?

Are you with an agency?

If I were you I think I would wait til April before talking to her about leaving. I would ask your agency about jobs then too - I don't think there's much point looking for work more than three months before you want to start.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/02/2009 14:35

think you need to have a chat

say that you are leaving in july.as you agreed to = so soon you are going to interviews to start in july and ask for a ref

why are you leaving and dont stay?, and if you have no contract, tech she could find a new nanny and give you notice, and you could be gone in march/april

Supernanny19 · 01/02/2009 14:52

Im not 100 percent happy here..they cant offer me what i want..and i know when i leave she will try and offer things but just the way there are in general..the kids are really rude , she comes in my room when im out because there is :more space: to store things..and im past the point of actually addressing it.id rather just wait until july and go..good point blondes i would be in a bad situation if this were to happen.

Have you got references from a previous job. When I am recruiting I completely understand if someone does not want their current boss to be contacted (a lot of people don't want their boss to know that they are looking for another job). In this case you should be able to request that your current boss should only be contacted for a reference after you have had a successful interview, and if possible, offer contactable references from previous jobs.
For what it's worth, I don't take much notice of written references, always ring and chat or email the employer direct.
