Do you have any holiday owing? If so, make a formal request for holiday (as per whatever the procedure is with your employer) and see if they grant the request.
Otherwise you will need to wait until you have left your current job.

The thing is she is soo like..protective over me..dont know how ill ever get a reference out of her..she warned her friends not to ask me to babysit because she doesnt want to spread me around LOL! so for her to hear im going to better myself(doing the courses)..she will make time hard for me. i would wait but the next course is in OCTOBER if i miss the one in may !

You can try asking for an up-paid day off and see what she says. Surprised you have used all your holiday up already... you have another 5+ months left to work.

I had 6 weeks off at xmas so i could go abroad and see family so now its work work work till the very end!..nannynick you always have such good advice..where do you get it from lol??..one of the course i wanted to do was the ICP..i know you can doin it in 2 ways..either distance learning or a 2 day course..whats the difference?

OP posts:
nannynick · 30/01/2009 19:29

I'm old - well not that old really, not quite middle aged yet. I'm also a little odd as I like reading all the Ofsted stuff (well I did work for them a while back).
No idea about the difference between the 2-day ICP and the distance learning version - apart from that with the 2-day version you will be in a classroom with other students, so will be more fun (with luck). If you plan to do the MNT one, make sure you take the optional exam, as then in future you can continue with the CACHE Diploma in Homebased Childcare course which on completion is Level 3. In the future it MAY be the case that all nannies need a Level 3 to be able to work - not law yet but it is a possibility.

Supernanny19 · 30/01/2009 19:32

Oh i see i think i might do the distance learning..then at least all i need is 1 day off Thanks for your help

MNT don't seem to do ICP by distance learning... they do a Common Core course instead. That I've actually done - it's just a booklet which you fill in and send back to them, I did it in a weekend... it's not hard.
NEC.ac.uk do the ICP (Diploma in Homebased Childcare Unit 1) via distance learning. The ICP is expected to take around 20 hours (excluding the exam).

Supernanny19 · 30/01/2009 19:39

so the common core..can i register with ofsted? :s im confusedd

OP posts:
frannikin · 30/01/2009 19:52

If you do the common core training then you can register with OFSTED. The ICP is a better bet than the MNT common core course because, as nannynick says, you can top it up to a full qualification later.

What else do you want to do? We might be able to suggest alternatives?

Supernanny19 · 30/01/2009 19:57

I want to do a MNT course called CARE FOR MULTIPLES..because im a young nanny i think all these extra things will boost my employment level..I just want it all out the way and do it asap so when july comes i actually am in a better position than last year..Its so much money aswell i really would have thought there would be some kind of funding..but i guess not..but if anyone can find any course not tooo pricey and its childcare related i would really appreicate it .. thanks everyone have a good friday night x

as she knows you are leaving, just ask her if you can have the fridays you want off UNPAID as you have used all your holiday

why should she be annoyed with you - the course is in may, thats over 3mths notice to book days off

cant see the problem , esp if she doesnt work

wickedwitchofwestfield · 30/01/2009 20:09

these lovely people do free NVQs in Children's Care, Learning & Development.
You attend one study day a month (on a Saturday) and it takes about 18 months all in, there is a bit of work to do in between study days and you really have to commit yourself to it, but at the end of it you have a level 2 (or 3 if they let you straight on it) qualification.

Supernanny19 · 30/01/2009 20:30

You'd be surprised she thinks she has borought me..
thanks wicked witch will check it out

You should be able to get a place on a course through your local Early Years team. They're part of the council. I was working in a nursery last time I looked into it though so it may be different if you are a privately employed nanny?
