Is it ok to register with more than one nanny agency for a job or is it a bad idea?

As a nanny or as a parent? Either way register with as many as you want.

as a parent I'd definitely register with more than one (speaking from experience I'm glad I did as one of them wasn't going to send the woman who I subsequently employed )

as a nanny, the only problem I can see so far is I have to pay for a disclosure for each one which is £20 each

I am registered as a Nanny with about 8 agencies - I only have one CRB and all the agencies have just photocopied this - I don't know why you would have to pay 20 each for a disclosure with each agency?

tankie · 26/01/2009 20:33

You don't need to have a new disclosure with each one - as Melinda says, just take it with you to each agency interview and they can photocopy it. That's what I did.

i don't know what its like in England but in scotland u need 2 have a different disclosure for every job u have that involves children, i have 4 already!!

Ah, I'm afraid I don't know enough about Scotland to know!

In England I think most schools etc would want to do their own CRB check, but for agencies and nannying, just one is fine.

frannikin · 26/01/2009 21:00

In England you're supposed to but it goes on job title so if you're looking for a job as a nanny then a disclosure done by one agency will do for any other. They'll get the same info back.

Besides if you're OFSTED regsitered as a nanny you only have the one anway and there's this new system coming in as well soon.

sarahc94 · 26/01/2009 21:04

I dont really know that much about England, although I think OFSTED is the same as the Care Commission? is this right??

Pretty much.

Scotland is quite a bit different to England with regard to the registration of nannies. In Scotland it is the Agencies that are registered, thus parents who don't use an agency to find their nanny, can't then use Childcare Vouchers.
As each agency has to comply with Care Commission rules, I'm not that surprised that they want a Disclosure Scotland done each time a nanny registers with them... at least the cost is less than the England equivalent.

As a nanny, if you register with multiple agencies, then it can sometimes be a bit of a juggle when it comes to the same job being advertised by more than one agency... who do you go with?

However I feel it is beneficial for a nanny and for parents seeking a nanny to register with several local agencies (if they have decided to use an agency).

what a nightmare to have to pay per agency/crb

i would say its worth registering with all your local agencies as most jobs will be with all the agencies, but there may the the odd (perfect) job that is with only one
