Ok, really. I have just had someone ask me about childminding, and have told me that they pay £3.50 an hour!
Is she to be believed, or could she be trying to persuade me to charge her less?!

I charge £5 an hour, which is standard among my network. She lives nearby, I am based in Egham, Surrey.

What do you think, are there people out there that are working for £3.50 an hour?!

Yes there are probably people working for even lower too, even in one area the rate can vary a lot, because sometimes people just don't put their fees up for years.

Stick to your guns, you decide what you charge, regardless of what she's been paying before.

CrackopentheBaileys · 20/01/2009 11:21

I've just never heard of £3.50 an hour, (in my area) regardless of how many children you take on. I mean, if you had two jobs would you expect half pay from each?

I charge £3.50 an hour and am the dearest in my village!
This also includes everything apart from nappies.

vInTaGeVioLeT · 20/01/2009 11:33

i charge £3.20 p/h and i'm regarded as expensive!

london11 · 20/01/2009 11:34

I charge £3.50 per hour per child for everything except nappies and formula milk. This is the normal rate here (south west). I can have 3 under 5's so for the majority of my working hours I am earning £11.50 per hour.

CrackopentheBaileys · 20/01/2009 11:40

obviously, I do mean people in my area. I know that it varies greatly across the region. SazzlesA I didn't mean to appear rude, but when would it stop. If you took on another child would you reduce them again? Lucky parents if so! The cost of individual childcare should not vary according to how many you are taking care of imo, apart from siblings of course.

I am certainly not looking to be greedy, but £5 per hour per child here is the norm, so I was genuinely wondering aboout anyone here that does charge £3.50

i definately don't offer a discount for siblings! i find they fight like cat and dog all day long - which in my opinion is much harder work!

I give a sibling discount as I can appreciate how expensive childcare is for those who have to pay for more than one. Good point though VV. Although I have only had siblings once, brothers aged 1 and 2, and they simply adored eachother, it was so lovely.

hmmm, it does appear that the further up you go the cheaper it gets!

I pay £4.50 per hr in Essex. Normally need at least 30 hrs per week.
Average bill for a month is £600-700.
