Pregnant Nanny

Our full time live out nanny has just announced she is pregnant and is due the middle of this year. She has said that she would like to come back and continue working for us after the birth of her baby.

Our children will be 7, 5, & 20 months when she returns from maternity leave. The older two are at school, a short walk away.

We are concerned that she has no family back up and that logistics / hours of her job PLUS bringing a small baby to work are likely to pose significance problems. She works 08:00 to 19:00.

What are other peoples? experiences of such a situation? Does it work or does it all fall apart after a short period of time?

Thanks

No experience of this... as I'm a nanny myself and I'm male - so can't be pregnant!

However, please keep the following in mind.

You DO NOT have to accept the nanny back on different terms - i.e. bringing baby. You do need to keep the job open for them, but under the SAME terms as currently - so just them, no baby.
If you do not want your nanny to bring their baby to work with them... then state that now, so that the nanny is clear with regard to that. The nanny can then look at childcare options and thus notify you at the appropriate time with regard to if they intend to return to work (this notification is during maternity leave).

the first thing that springs to my mind id - do you want your nanny to come back with baby?

yes it will be hard work but if you are happy for her to come back, then your youngest will have a playmate when they are a bit older

can she fit all 4 in the car for holidays?

i have had friends go back to their family of 3 charges with their baby and it has worked out well

but sure there are cases where it hasnt as well
