If I was to go back to my pre-kids work, I would need childcare from 5pm - 11.30pm and on Sat noon - 11.30pm.
What is the general reaction to beibg asked to work those hours?? Thanks.

A childminder may not be keen, but you might find a nanny or babysitter (student maybe?) who do those hours. You might need two people though, as not everyone would be prepared to lose all weekday evening and Saturday night. I guess it would be quite a straightforward job during the week - give kids tea and put them to bed.

I think you would want someone in your house too

As you wouldn't want to move children at 11:30 would you?

Two people might work. I do feel funny about someone else doing tea/bath/bed routine 6 nights a week with them. That's what is putting me off. And the cost!!

Would it better to change your hours? or get a different job?

It is often tricky to decide what is best

Well, the hours are set, it's whether I go back to it or not.
I'm doing a very practical, school hours job at the moment.
What would others do????
Job satisfaction or kids bedtime?
(Kids are 6 and 3.)

I'd go for the kids bedtime - they're only little for such a short time and you can't get those years back. What is the job that would have you out 6 evenings a week (is nosey!). Would it be possible to go back to it a few more years down the line? Would it be possible to find another job in that line of work that had slightly more child friendly hours.

On the other side of the coin are those that have no choice and have to do those sort of hours and I'm sure they'd say that although they miss bedtime their kids are used to it and coping ok.

Hi nbee,
Thanks - I'm thinking you're right, really.
Job is in theatre, so hours are dictated by performance times!
Oooohhhh, I just don't know what to do!!!!!!
