EYFS observations and assessments on own children? Anyone heard of this?

A couple of cms have mentioned to me that if our own dcs are counted in our numbers (though they aren't 'counted' technically, they're taken off the permitted number!) then we have to have the same files on them that we have for mindees - do obs, assessments, learning plans etc. Has anyone had this crop up in an inspection? I thought the 1st cm to mention was having a laugh - until the 2nd mentioned it! I can't keep up with the paperwork for mindees and feel very strongly that this is my ds 'home' not his nursery setting - he has his structured teaching while at nursery, he comes home to chill, have fun and relax. My dh has said 'no way' but I have my inspection due any time and would like to know what the posiiono is?? Would ring Ofsted but that would only remind them that my inspection is now overdue Any advice appreciated

I have never heard of this. I really hope this is not true.

Am going to ask cm friend who's about to go off on maternity leave to ring Ofsted next couple of days. Should have stayed in estate agency !!! Didn't have to do anywhere near the bloody training or paperwork I have to do now - oh, and I got paid a hell of a lot more

I don't care if it is true or not, I have not and will not be doing it for my own dc. I don't agree with it for mindees (neither do the parents) and I am most certainly not going to do it. Ofsted can take a running jump if they think I am!! (can you tell I'm against it )

You're not providing "childcare" for your own children as defined by law (ie. for reward, etc). EYFS requirements only apply to children you provide early years care for.

Tell the people who said that they're just creating unnecessary work for themselves!

absolutely ridiculous... as if.. ignore them, clearly mad...

HSMM · 15/01/2009 21:11

Well. I'm not doing it! I have no intention of education my own child

Orangutan · 15/01/2009 21:11

My local FIS are offering me loads of support as I'm just starting out & I asked about obs etc. for own dc & they said NO! Only minded kids!

thebody · 15/01/2009 21:50

see what i mean, so much confusion,,,to rite HSMM turn on the tv, thats what we cms do all day isnt it.. well that and lying about our numbers and twisting tiny wrists behind closed doors.....

CrackopentheBaileys · 15/01/2009 22:07

absolutely untrue.... the most bizarre thing I've heard for a lonnnnng time!

Arfa · 15/01/2009 22:59

Children are only covered by the EYFS if they are being minded for reward for more than 2 hours a day. Your own children will be with you for more than 2 hours a day, but you don't charge yourself for looking after them so they are exempt. Which is another reason why the whole EYFS thing is so ridiculous.
